There is still something in there obviously. I ran a bunch of scan apps, each did their job but some malware still remains. I used: spybot, adaware, spywareblaster, AVG a symantec fix for Vundo & Monde, blaster.exe, vcleaner, and finally spysweeper (scan picks up virtueMonde but can't finish scan but causes a BSOD). ran all scans in normal & safe mode, restore:off & all updated(everything).

here is my hijackthis log:

Sorry if I didn't do this right. Thanks for lookin!
Hello!
I go by FencerGirl. I would be glad to take a look at your log and help you with solving any malware problems. HijackThis logs can take a while to research.

Please be patient and I'd be grateful if you would note the following:
  • I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.
  • The fixes are specific to your problem and should only be used for this issue on this machine.
  • Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine appears to be clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear.
  • It's often worth reading through these instructions and printing them for ease of reference.
  • If you don't know or understand something, please don't hesitate to say or ask!! It's better to be sure and safe than sorry.
  • Finally, please reply to this thread. Do not start a new topic.

It may take me a while to reply to you as all of my fixes are being checked by experts to ensure that you are getting a good fix. And remember, like you I have a real life, so I may not be at my computer when you are!

FencerGirl
Hi Vondollo,
Your log indicates that you might still have Vundo (which goes with Virtumonde) on your computer. However, you may have a more pressing problem.

I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news but unfortunately, you have multiple infections, the most dangerous of which is W32/Tilebox-JI with backdoor capabilities. This gives intruders complete control of your computer, logging key strokes, stealing information, etc. :(
You are strongly advised to do the following immediately!:
  • Disconnect infected computer from the internet and from any networked computers until the computer can be cleaned.
  • Call all of your banks, credit card companies, financial institutions and inform them that you may be a victim of identity theft and to put a watch on your accounts or change all your account numbers.
  • From a clean computer, change *all* of your online passwords – for ISP login, email, banks, financial accounts, PayPal, eBay, online companies, and any online forums or groups you belong to.Do NOT change passwords or do any transactions while using the infected computer because the attacker will get the new passwords and transaction information.
Because of its backdoor functionality, your PC is very likely compromised and there is no way to be sure it can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS. However, if you do not have the resources to reinstall your OS and would like me to attempt to clean your machine, I will be happy to do so.

To help you make a more informed decision, please read the following articles:
  • Danger: Remote Access Trojans.
  • When should I re-format? How should I reinstall?
  • How Do I Handle Possible Identify Theft, Internet Fraud and Credit Card Fraud?
Should you have any questions, please feel free to ask.

If you decide you'd like to clean your computer, please rename HijackThis following the steps below and give me a new HijackThis log.

Rename HijackThis.exe

1. Right click on the HijackThis icon.
[external image: Posted Image]

2. Select Rename.
[external image: Posted Image]

3. Now type the following scanner.exe note: make sure to put period before .exe when typing.

Thanks,
FencerGirl

once again, Thank You!
Hi Vondollo,
Vundo is still on the system, so let's get cleaning!

Step 1: Download and run VundoFix

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button." when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Step 2: Clean with HijackThis!

Scan with HijackThis and check the following if present.

O23 - Service: msnntlp - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system\msnntlp.exe (file missing)

CLOSE ALL OTHER WINDOWS and select "Fixed Checked".

Then go to Misc. Tools.
Choose Delete an NT Service.
Copy and paste msnntlp into the box and hit OK.

Reboot your computer.

After you've completed both steps, please post back with the VundoFix log and a new HijackThis log.
Thanks,
FencerGirl
Thank you!

And yes the link you gave me helped fix FireFox. Thank you.
The Kaspersky still detected Vundo & about 27 other stuff too.
Hi Vondollo,

You've got a doozy of an infection there. The first thing I need you to do disconnect the computer from the internet. If the computer is on a local network, disconnect it from that too.
You have a network worm, that spreads via LAN's and is known to cause denial of service attacks on a few websites. It has infected every .htm and .html file on the computer. Help files are often in these formats, so there might bea lot of reinstalling to do if we clean those up. You can read about this infection here and here.

You also have a trojan that's replaced your winlogon.exe file. I can attempt to clean both of these infections, but at this point, it might be better to cut your losses and reformat.
Please let me know what you think.

If the computer is on a network, please scan the other computers on the network with Kaspersky and post back with their logs.

Thanks,
FencerGirl
I think we'll cut our losses & reformat. Can't get onto the Kaspersky site, was like that yesterday as well, perhaps the worm is DOS the kaspersky site? Even on my 'clean' computer I cant get on. hope its not infected as well, but I didn't setup the infected comp on my network so they see each other but I did hook it up on the same router as the 'clean' one. Oh no!
Hi Vondollo,
Kaspersky's down for me too. I'm sure they'll be back up soon. In the mean time, why don't you try a Panda Active Scan on the "clean" computer, just to be safe.

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.
- Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
- A new window will open…click the big "Check Now" button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
- Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
- Save the log file to your desktop

Post back with the log file for me to look over.

Also, do have any questions about reformatting?

Thanks,
FencerGirl

Hi Vondollo,
The Kaspersky log indicates that the "clean" computer is in fact clean!

Here's a few suggestions for keeping both computers clean in the future. Some of these suggestions, you were already doing, but it's a good reminder.
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:1. From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
    2. Click once on the Security tab
    3. Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    4. Click once on the Custom Level button.
    a. Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
    b. Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
    c. Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
    d. Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
    e. Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
    f. Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
    g. When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    h. If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
5. Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
[*]Use an Anti Virus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a listing of some on line & their stand-alone anti virus programs:

Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus

[*]Update your Anti Virus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Anti virus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

[*]Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For an article on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Computer Safety On line - Software Firewalls

[*]Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

[*]Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.

This will provide real-time spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware

[*]Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Instructions for - Spybot S & D and Ad-aware

[*]Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here:

Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware

[*]Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Please let me know if you have any questions and good luck with the reformat!
FencerGirl
All those suggestions were all ready in force, thanks anyway! As I said before, I appreciate any & all help that I get. As for the reformat, it went like a breeze. No problems. B) This thread can be closed, we worked hard to get the infection out, but this certain type of infection is a "doozy"—->reformat! . I once again express my utmost appreciation for the help, FencerGirl. I will recommend this site & spread good news. THANK YOU!
