Some Stealing My Bank Passwords! Help Me

Today I accessed a malicious Crack/keygen site on my laptop, and from there everything has gone bad (learnt my lesson).

Everything slowed down, pop ups started to appears, and running processes started appearing like smanager.7.exe and some thing to do with OiUnistall (i used this program to apparently get rid of that Oi ware).

At the moment i am running Avast! On-Access scanner (antivirus) and lavasoft's ad-aware SE. I just downloaded Spybot S & D but havent run anything yet.

Before i was fully aware of this hacker/virus/trojan problem i tried attempting to see what my bank account balance was before i went golfing today. I noticed the Log in screen after i typed in my number and password took me to another page asking for my Secret Answers and Questions. I started to type them in, then realised that i had never been asked this before and that they had made a spelling mistake [Secret Asnwer] that i doubt the Commonwealth Bank would make. My Answers/questions were in but i didnt click submit. I went immediatly to the other computer and changed my secrets and passwords. But im still worried that i may never be able to safely use this laptop again for accessing any of my finacial things. I need to be 100% sure that it is clear, so could someone please view over my HJT log and any other that they wish me to create. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Jake Binzer,

Welcome to the forum. Lets do this one first, this is the password stealing trojan

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O20 - Winlogon Notify: rpcc - C:\WINDOWS\System32\rpcc.dll

Open HJT and go to Misc Tools > Delete a file on Reboot and paste this in
C:\WINDOWS\System32\rpcc.dll Then click OK and reboot.

You have a two possible Malware programs on your system, do this.

Please download SmitfraudFix
to your Desktop.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Go to where you have HJT installed and right click on the HJT icon, looks like a red stick or dynamite with a plunger, and rename HJT to Scanner.exe and post a new Log.

Let me see the Smitfraud log and a new HJT log with it renamed.
I did as you said with the HJT, but after i did the scan and pressed Fix Selected (the file was apparently deleted/fixed) i opend the internet to read what to do next. This may have revived that rpcc.dll file… i went to the delete on reboot as it sais and it rebooted when i clicked OK. so just to be sure i did a clean restart, started the whole thing again (the file was still there!! so i must have revived it) then went to delete on reboot. rebooted again, and it seems to be gone for good. I hope i didnt mess anything up because i opened up internet exploer mid process and by attemepting to rectify it. Ill just print the replys (solutions) from now on. Sorry

Ps. I renamed it to Scanner.exe straight from the Explorer window. Did a scan and noticed that nothing i could see had changed. Except that in the log it said ….blah blah… C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\scanner.exe.exe So i removed the exe in the Explorer now it sais just plain C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\scanner.exe which is what im hoping you are after. Still no change i can notice in the program though. dayam i wish i stoped making stilly mistakes.
It looks like you may be infected with Vundo. I need you to run a couple of scans for me.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

It's extremely important that you follow these instructions to either Remove or Quarantine what it finds and save the report for me to see, it shows what and what not was removed along with an extensive report that may lead to other infections that are not showing on your HJT log. Without me seeing the report my hands are tied.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop. It's very important that I see the report so make sure you follow the instructions and save the log.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.
Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Reboot and run this system cleaner.

If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < – After it scans your system, when you click on the Fix button and it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner

I need to see…

AVG Log
Vundo Log
New HJT log
Hey, I did exactly as you said, word for word. Overview of the programs are:
HJT, fixed the probs u asked
VundoFix didnt find any infected files so it didnt ask/do a reboot.
AVGAS intstalled and opperated fine in normal windows mode, but when I switched to Safe mode, my display size was very small (1/4 of the screen and in the center). This cut off the outer side and top edges of the Full Screen program AVGAS. I managed to click on the buttons that you said, and it seemd to work fine. After the scan, you said to select the REPORTS icon at the top, then Select the SAVE REPORT AS in the lower left hand of the screen… when i went to reports there was nothing there. so i went back to the scanner and saw SAVE REPORT, then that took me to the now updated REPORTS tab where there was the log. Then i click on SAVE REPORT AS and did this OK. Maybe i took a wrong turn somewhere or your instructions need a slight ajustment, but it worked and i greatly appreciate the help you are giving me.
Ran the CCleaner and did a Run Cleaner Scan first, then and issues scan, came up with some issues that needed me to confirm manually if i was to delete the key or registry, they should be in the log. (ie unused file extention names, and files left over from previous uninstalled programs mainly, i said yes to all).

Here are the Three logs you asked for too. Thanks

What I would do is to clean out your Windows System Restore program as there are bad files backed up that program.

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.
  • Right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Turn ON System Restore.
  • Right-click My Computer.
  • ClickProperties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Create a new Restore Point <– Very Important
  • You will have to be in Catagory View in the Control Panel to see this.
  • Go to Start> Control Panel> and up on the top left, make sure your in Catagory View
  • Go to Performance and Maintenance> System Restore> ( this will also be up on your top left ) then Create a New Restore Point
  • You can name the Restore Point anything you like
System Restore Tutorial <– If you need it

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Right click on Start > Then click on Explore
and scroll to C:\WINDOWS\system32\smanager.7.exe and make sure its gone, if its still present please let me know.

The rest of your log looks fine  How are things running now??
Also update your JAVA to plug any holes to help block this garbage from entering your computer.
  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 Update 1 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future
I also would like you to read this post in another forum that is being handled by my good friend PSKELLEY. I am pointing it out as this is one of the infections you had , although it appears to be gone.

This is what you had.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpcc.dll
http://research.sunbelt-software.com…threatid=70540

I tell ya, years ago there was viruses going around that would do something funny on your system, today there are things going around that are not funny anymore. Some real serious garbage.
Hey the system is running smoother than ever, and I'd like to keep it that way. Out of all the things that i downloaded, what do i need to keep to keep my computer clean and fast, and what can i get rid of (do i keep the logs and backup folders they created, and will any of the programs interfere with each other? Here is a list of all the ones i can find: Ad-Aware SE Personal Avast! Antivirus (has realtime protection) AVG Anti Spyware 7.5 CCleaner (i like this one, ill keep this) HijackThis 1.99.1 Hijackthis 1.99.1 yes i think i have two installed, one with a capital T in THIS. QuickTime Spybot S & D 1.4 And other programs which i downloaded that arent in Add/Remover are: Avenger SmitFraudFix VundoFix Sohpos Anti-Root Kit I did as you said and there was no trace of the smanager.7 file. The Java program when i was installing it said that it had detected that i wasnt running the correct system, meaning that its designed for Vista, SP2 and other stuff. I clicked continue anyway coz it said it may still work fine, but do i need to get SP2 or update windows and stuff, or can i leave it as is. The Hdd on this laptop isnt very big so the more room the better :) Just finished the Java install now, and its verified fine too. Thanks Oh one last thing, do i need a firewall and could i obtain a free version from somewhere? is there anything else i need? Thanks so much for fixing the computer.
Jake Binzer :D

These you can remove as they are just a fix for your system that are no longer needed. You can just drag the icons to your Recycle Bin.

Avenger
SmitFraudFix
VundoFix
Sohpos Anti-Root Kit

Keep these.

Ad-Aware SE Personal
Avast! Antivirus (has realtime protection)
AVG Anti Spyware 7.5
CCleaner (i like this one, ill keep this)
HijackThis 1.99.1
Hijackthis 1.99.1 yes i think i have two installed, one with a capital T in THIS. <– Remove One
QuickTime
Spybot S & D 1.4

AVG Anti Spyware is yours to keep after the trial , it will be limited but you can still check for updates and run scans and remove what it finds.

You need to upgrade your Operating System, you are very vulnerable with no updates and patches. You can open Internet Explorer and go to Tools > Windows Updates and down load what ever is available. It may take awhile because you need them all including Service Pack 2 and beyond. Do not install any driver files just critical updates.

Another option is this
Service Pack 2 (SP2)
If you prefer you can download the update here or even order the CD free from Microsoft
SERVICE PACK 2

Never have more than one Anti Virus, you have Avast so do not install another. I am listing some free programs that are recommended by the wonderful people in the Malware Removal forum. My list includes a free firewall from Zonelabs. I have been using the free one for many years.

Malware Complaints
Are you mad ? I mean really mad, seething mad, so mad your ready to spit, mad that you have taken your hard earned dollars to buy a computer only to have some Miscredents, Dirt Bags and Cyber Criminals install a malicious program on your computer without your knowledge or consent. You can post your complaint at the above site. If you live in the U.S.A. you can also report your grievance to your State Attorney Generals Office and the Federal Trade Commission's Bureau of Consumer Protection.

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote , I'm glad I was able to help you. :D
