I recently got hit with something the generated pop-ups. I've ran adaware, spybot search and destroy, and both avg anti-virus and avg anti-spyware. It found quite a bit of viruses, and I got rid of them. I know I have virtumonde, and poked around and found a partial fix. It got rid of most the dlls, but I think the original program is still there (something tries to run ourknyso.dll but has an error at boot but it doesn't exist). I'm positive this .dll was a part of virtumonde. Any help would be appreciated. Here's my hijack this log

Welcome to the forum, you are still infected. It looks like you killed Vundo, but often other junk comes with the same exploit. We believe out of date Java programs have much to do with this, see this information: http://forums.spybot.info/showpost.php?p=1…amp;postcount=2
Download the newest version of Java and then uninstall all old version in Add Remove programs.

Since there is a class action involving this one, you may want to view this information:
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2007/0308…y-unravels.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBUZHiKhsog

1) How to make files and folders visible:
Click Start > Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm. Click OK.
You may reverse this for safety when we are finished.

2) Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune
http://www.atribune.org/content/view/25/2/
Save it to your Desktop. We will use this later.

3) AVG Anti-Spyware: Deactivate the Resident Shield
- Before proceeding, deactivate the "Resident Shield" as this may prevent changes to the registry.
- To do this, click "Change State" to the right of the Resident Shield option in the main window.
- You will clearly see the status change to Inactive if you have done this correctly.

4) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

(if you placed these items in your Hosts file, you may leave them)

O1 - Hosts: 127.255.255.255 serial.alcohol-soft.com
O1 - Hosts: 127.255.255.255 www.alcohol-soft.com
O1 - Hosts: 127.255.255.255 images.alcohol-soft.com
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PrintDrive] "rundll32.exe" "C:\windows\system32\ourknyso.dll",setvm
(the BAD one)
O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} (PopCapLoader Object) - http://games.pogo.com/online2/pogo/chuzzle…aploader_v6.cab
(nasty adware also)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

5) RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\windows\system32\ourknyso.dll <<< delete that file

6) You have this program, run it according to the instructions in the link, delete or quarantine anything it finds and save the scan report to post.
http://forums.security-central.us/showthread.php?t=3165

7) Run ATF Cleaner
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
Click the Empty Selected button.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

Restart the computer and post the scan report and a new HJT log, let me know how the computer is running.
Use Add Reply, stay in this same topic.

Thanks
Hey thanks for helping. I ran the scan and fixed the bottom 2 with Hiackthis, but i couldn't find the file. I used the search on the windows drive for it, but found nothing. The ads still come up, but at least it's not trying to start up that .dll every time I reboot. The scan was fine except for some cookies, here's the post

I must apologize :( administration has been upgrading software here and while it IS NOT supposed to happen, the notification I was supposed to received when you posted did not come. I discovered this during a routine check of open topics.
Thanks you for being timely yourself and returning your information…Phil

I see this: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PrintDrive] rundll32.exe "C:\windows\system32\lviugglm.dll",setvm
which makes me believe you still have the infection. Let me give you a little information before I post the instructions to start removing it.

Please understand these hackers can call there junk anything they wish. Vundofix may not know the files at first, but it will learn. You want to run the fix until you see all Vundo files say: "Has been deleted"
Since there is a class action involving this one, you may want to view this information:
http://www.networkworld.com/news/2007/0308…y-unravels.html
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zBUZHiKhsog

Thanks to Atribune and any others who helped with this fix.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

(if any of the files are not recognized and removed, it is very important that you follow the next instructions. If you upload the file, Atribune will add it to the fix and after a short while you should be able to complete removal.

If there is a file VundoFix doesn't find we need it submitted. Please submit
the files to upload malware http://www.uploadmalware.com

Thanks
sorry for the delay, I ran the Vundo scan a few days ago and it found more dlls. I removes them, and then ran an avg antispyware scan which also detected vundo and removed it. I couldn't find the report for the vundo fix. I'm re-running the scans right now and I'll post if I detect anything else. Thanks once again
I would be glad to look at your logs to make sure you are clean if you will post them:

Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Thanks

Thanks…Phil
I've ran into the same problem, I can't find that .dll Everything is set to view everything, and I arranged the icons by name so they would be in order. I also ran a search for the .dll, and didn't find anything. I won't be able to reply until Thursday as I'll be away. Thanks for being patient. Here's the new hijack this log.

I have to apologize  I am supposed to be notified when you add to your post and this did not happen. During routine check of TomCoyote I found your log. I will say this HJT log appears to be clean and if you are having no malware problems, then I suggest you do this:
System Restore does not know the good files from the bad. In case bad stuff has gotten into your System Restore files, follow the instructions in this link to get clean System Restore files. Turn it off, reboot then turn it back on:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…src=sec_doc_nam

I will allow a few days for you to post if any malware issues still exist.

AVG Anti-Spyware is a good program but it does use some resources. Once the trial is over you can update and use the scanner for as long as you wish, but unless you purchase it you should turn it off completely so it does not run unless you start it manually.
