I have AOL on my system, and it's protections are on. About 5-10 minutes after my computer start. AOL's spyware software alerts me that it has blocked isearch. The alert that isearch has be blocks pops up about ever hour to two hours. I've never consiously installed the isearch toolbar and I don't even use internet explorer. I did try the isearch uninstall tool that I found on the next but that didn't seem to do anything.
I followed your self help section.

I run spyware blaster and Ad-aware regularly.
Is it me or does isearch seem to hide from virus and spyware softward.

hi StormyQ, i dont see anything that looks like a toolbar in the log. lets see if avg can dig up anything. it could just be a false positive on AOL's part. do a scan with avg, when its done: select the "Reports" icon at the top. * Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your computer. Please post the AVG log in next reply. shelf life
The I posted the AVG log before the Hijack this log. but here's another one just in case. I didn't find Isearch. ——————————————————— AVG Anti-Spyware - Scan Report ——————————————————— + Created at: 11:30:31 AM 4/6/2007 + Scan result: :mozilla.7:C:\Documents and Settings\Stormy.MECAHOBBES\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\yrlu56mj.default\cookies.txt -> TrackingCookie.Netflame : No action taken. :mozilla.8:C:\Documents and Settings\Stormy.MECAHOBBES\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\yrlu56mj.default\cookies.txt -> TrackingCookie.Webtrends : No action taken. ::Report end I saved the log before I applied any actions. So your thinking I don't actually have Isearch on my computer and AOL keep blocking something else?
hi StormyQ

I posted the AVG log before the Hijack this log

yes you did. shelf life missed it.

lets try this:

start>settings>Control Panel> click the Internet options icon

Next:

Click on Delete Cookies.

Click on Delete Files, Make sure Delete all offline content is checked and then click on OK

Then click on Settings, then click on View Files if there is any thing in there, delete what you can
(edit>select all— then file>delete)

Empty your Temp folders. Go to Start > Run and type:cleanmgr. Windows will scan. When done check these 3 and press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

start>run> type in cmd then hit enter
at the prompt type in
ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter note: there is a space after ipconfig

I did as you sayand less than five minutes atfer I did AOL said it was blocking Isearch again. Which was strange because I thought I turned AOL's spyware program off. I ran AVG ad ad-ware and they both came back with nothing.
hi StormyQ, i dont think you have any malware on your computer. does it give you the warning when you are on the internet or at other times or both? shelf life
My internet is normally always on. I restarted my computer with the network cable unplugged and the AOL's spyware protection popped up and said it was blocking it about 10 minutes after. So AOL's spyware blocker is broken?
hi StormyQ,

So AOL's spyware blocker is broken

no its not broken. maybe a false positive. all malware apps are capable of a occasional false positive.

at first i thought maybe it was a cookie stored on your computer that was being invoked by a server when you go to a certain website. cookies are pretty much harmless. thats why we tried deleting them.

isearch is a internet explorer toolbar. do you see any extra tool bars when IE is open? or do you see any toolbars listed in the add/remove programs panel?

shelf life
I don't really use IE. No toolbars in the Add/Remove programs. And the only toolbar that's listed in IE that isn't standars is the Adobe Acrobat toolbar.
hi StormyQ, i replied to your post earlier today. must have forgot to hit the add reply button. i would chalk it up as a aol false positive. you have avg and ad aware. i doubt that something as common as a toolbar or search helper would make it past those two without being detected. iam not familiar with aol's spyware app, but maybe there is a feature built-in so you could add the pop up msg to a exception or allow list? just so it dosnt annoy you all the time. shelf life
