Next to the time (lower right corner of my monitor), is a 'circle' question mark which changes to a 'do-not' red symbol w/the diagonal line through it. Every five minutes or so it a pop up window extends from it saying
System Alert! and when you click on it it brings you to a webpage: Spydawn.com. Running Spybot and HighjackThis reveals a harddrive infected w/Trojans, etc. Any fixes around? Here are the logs that may help. I am not computer savvy.

Hi mnschur, Welcome to TomCoyote,
Un fortunately HJT logs are not analysed in this part of the forums (although the one you posted is not The log required)

Download Hijackthis.exe, here:
http://www.radiosplace.com

Save Hijackthis.exe to its own permanent folder, such as the following:
C:\Hijackthis folder\hjt.exe

Select Run and save a log file.

Then Copy/Paste the Log file into our Malware Removal Forum, here:
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showforum=27

Be patient as there are many logs to be worked on, and the Experts all volunteer their time.

Hope this helps….

Regards pacman123
(looks like pacman123 was typing at the same time I was, and got finished sooner)
follow the instructions from either of these replies.
Thanks pacman123 for your reply……. you beat me to it!

Hi Michael,

This infection (spydawn) is a "rogue-suspect" malware product that probably got downloaded onto your machine without your consent, when you downloaded something else, most likely a Codec pack, or a media file.

It goes without saying, that you Should NOT, click-on or Run Spydawn.

Spydawn is associated with the "smitfraud" catagory of malware and requires some "specialized tools", to remove it successfully.

Since you describe yourself as " I am not computer savvy." You should probably make yourself available to Expert Advice before taking any further steps toward removing this Malware.

Do the Following:

Create a New Folder on your C:\ drive, C:\New Folder
Rename the New Folder as: C:\HiJackThis

Download HiJackThis! (hjt.exe), here:
http://www.radiosplace.com

Open HJT, by double-clicking on the file - hjt.exe - in your new folder at C:\Hijackthis\hjt.exe (Your HJT.exe may appear as HiJackThis.exe)

Run HJT by Selecting "Run a System Scan and Save a Log" <— the first "button" in HJT

HJT will rapidly scan your machine and then will open a Notepad screen to display the HJT Log

In Notepad - Select - Edit - Select All (to highlight all of the contents of Notepad)
In Notepad - Select - Edit - Copy (to copy all of the contents of the HJT Log in Notepad)

Next:
GoTo our Malware Removal Forum, here:
http://forums.tomcoyote.org/index.php?showforum=27

Click on New Topic to open a thread for your HJT Log
Write a Topic, like "Please help, Spydawn Infection"

In the body of the thread, Right-Click in the white space, and Select - Paste (to paste your HJT Log into the thread)

You can write a brief description of the problem you are facing and how your machine is behaving. (keep it brief)

Please be patient. Malware Removal Advisors are all Volunteers and are very busy.
There may be a delay of a day or so before an Advisor is free to respond to your situation.

Best Regards,

(Note:) Do not post your HJT Log here in this Other Computer Problems Forum, because we do not analyze or respond to HJT Logs here.
