Lately my computer's been slow, and giving me random pop-ups/unders, which is odd because I just finished building it a month or so ago and it's been perfect since. So I decided to run spybot and ad-aware and spybot shows Smitfraud.toolbar888 every time I run it, even after deleting the file numerous times. After browsing around on the net this site seemed the most informative so here I am. Thanks in advance for any help you offer.

Hello The_Disturbed1 and welcome to the forums here at Tom Coyote.

You appear very much to have a Vundo infection. I will have you proceed with the fix but in the meantime can you also use HJT 1.99.1 in place of the new BETA version. You can get it here:

HijackThis v1.99.1

Please download
VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click Yes
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log (version 1.99.1).
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from Click the Scan for Vundo button when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Regards,
Dave
Well that did speed my computer up a lot, but spybot is still showing that I have Smitfraud. As requested below is the logfile from both Vundofix and HiJackThis.

Hi The_Disturbed1,

We're not quite done with the fix yet, that's probably why you still get the detection. The Vundo tool definitely appears to have done it's job though.

The other thing is you don't appear to have an Antivirus program in place. Is this so? Here are a couple of free programs and I would recommend you put one in place ASAP to avoid future infections.

AVG AntiVirus
Avast Antivirus Home Version–Free

———————————————————————–

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Please reverse this process once the fix is complete.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {71129123-2A95-4BE5-B9D7-FCDD9BB61351} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddaya.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {C3AE80DC-CE36-41E6-A011-E498F909614B} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkklih.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {F472C4C3-05C2-47C7-B406-BFF525DAAB60} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljpafgup.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [2chkdsk] rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\xbcckxxd.dll",setvm

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Using Windows Explorer delete the following files if present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ddaya.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkkklih.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ljpafgup.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\xbcckxxd.dll

Under Main select the following:
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

————————————————————————————————–

Using Internet Explorer, click on Kaspersky Online Scanner * You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click 'Yes'.
* The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
* Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click 'Next'.
* Now click on 'Scan Settings'
* In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: 'Extended' (If available, otherwise 'Standard')
o Scan Options: 'Scan Archives' and 'Scan Mail Bases'
* Click 'OK'
* Now under 'Select a target to scan' select 'My Computer'
* The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete, it will display whether your system has been infected.
* Now click on the 'Save as Text' button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
Please post the Kaspersky report and a new HijackThis log

Regards,
Dave

Most of what Kaspersky found was in your HJT/Vundo backups, and restore points, which we can clean up. The only thing I'm not sure of is this: C:\Program Files\Cool MP3 Splitter\crack.exe Infected: Trojan-Downloader.Win32.Small.ddp skipped Do you use the Cool MP3 Splitter Program? Looks like it may have been cracked? You probably want to delete the file as it does appear to be infected. Also let me know how the computer is running at this point. Dave
My computer's been running great ever since I used Vundofix so I guess the problem is gone. I did delete that mp3 splitter crack file as well. I'm about to install McAffee so hopefully that will prevent this from happening again. Thanks so much for the help.
That's great :thumbup:

Some other things you may want to consider in addition to adding an Antivirus:

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. Here are some free and evalutation versions that provide
better security than the Windows Firewall.Kerio Personal Firewall
Zone Alarm Free
Outpost Firewall
For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some other available ones see the link below:
Understanding and Using Firewalls

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly or set your computer to receive automatic updates. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Spybot: Search And Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers

Install Ad-Aware - Ad-Aware SE You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Install SpywareGuard - SpywareGuard provides a real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:
Using SpywareGuard to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware

Update all of your Anti-Malware programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed and the ones you are currently running regularly. Without regular updates you Will Not be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Here is a great link to a post here on securing your PC after an attack.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Glad I was able to help.
