Hello,
I am new to this forum and site but I have been lurking for about a week trying to learn some things. I still understand not much about the working of the computer.
My computer seemed to be running OK one day and then the next it seems slower than honey.
I have the log here and I hope I did it right by putting it in it's own folder. When you have time please take a look and let me know what my problem is.
thanks you,
june_d

Hello june_d and Welcome to TomCoyote,

If you have any questions about the following, please do not hesitate to reply and ask!

STEP 1.
======
WinsockXPfix
Download WinsockXPfix
Do Not use it yet!
If you encounter problems connecting to the Internet, run this WinsockXPfix. You may not even need to do this but I want you to be aware of this fix if for some reason you cannot connect after rebooting.
Locate the Winsockxpfix.exe and double click and click Run.
The VB_WinFix Win 1.2 window will appear.
Click Fix

STEP 2.
======
New.Net Removal

Please open Add/Remove programs and uninstall New.Net or NewDotNet. If it is not listed, follow these instructions:
  • From a computer that has Internet access, click on NewDotNet Removal
  • If you get "the page cannot be displayed" when clicking on the removal link.
    You may have winhelp's mvps hosts file installed, as www.newdotnet.com is a blocked site
  • Download and save uninstall6_90.exe (New.Net/Support/Uninstall exe file) to the Desktop.
  • Go to the Desktop and double-click on uninstall6_90.exe
  • Click on the OK button.
  • After removal, reboot.
STEP 3.
=====
Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Scan with HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:
O2 - BHO: URLLink - {4A2AACF3-ADF6-11D5-98A9-00E018981B9E} - C:\Program Files\NewDotNet\newdotnet7_48.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O3 - Toolbar: Starware358 - {9FB3908C-6565-4CB0-95F8-E9F85258723C} - C:\Program Files\Starware358\bin\Starware358.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [New.net Startup] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2.DLL,ClientStartup -s

Close all windows or browsers except for Hijackthis. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
c:\windows\system32\rlvknlg.exe<=file
C:\Program Files\Starware358<=folder
C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\<=folder (folder begins with NEWDOT)

Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

STEP 4.
=====
Now run this online scan using Internet Explorer:
Kaspersky Online Scanner from http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

* Turn off the real time scanner of any existing antivirus program while performing the online scan
Next Click on Launch Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.

**Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Step 5
====
Post (reply) with the log from Kapersky and a fresh hijackthis log.
