Help!

Just in the last day, my PC has slowed considerably. As I write this, it is running so slow, it sometimes takes 15-20 minutes to accomplish one task.

Here is my HijackThis Log:

Thanks for your help!
As I said in my first post, my computer has been running VERY slow – to the point that it would take at least 15-20 minutes to execute any task that I gave it (and sometimes longer). Eventually, I was forced to use another computer to contact you, because it was taking hours to do even simple tasks. Then, I decided to see if I could tackle the problem on my own. And, for a while, I thought I had made some real progress … I looked over the HJT log, and identified some of the processes that (I thought) might be causing my problem. I then searched your forum to see what advice was offered on these processes. In the end, I identified three lines that, I thought, should be deleted by HJT FixCheck, and I deleted them. These lines are: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe The third line seemed to be the most promising. The initial result was very promising, as the computer immediately began to perform almost as well as before the problem. But, that lasted less than 24 hours. By this evening, the computer is back to running as slow as before I ran FixCheck on those three lines. So much for my doing this on my own. On the latest HJT scan taken this evening, the three lines I deleted have not returned. I really need your help! Please let me know what I should do! Thanks.
SOMEONE, PLEASE HELP!

Things have gotten even worse in the last few days.

The Task List on my computer now shows that my CPU is at 100% capacity virtually all the time. And now, in addition to the computer being INCREDIBLY slow, it has begun to get hung-up at the completion of the few tasks that I can get it to do – for example, it will not completely shut-down anymore (it begins shutting down, gets hung-up, and I eventually have to turn off the power to the CPU to get a complete shut-down).

I followed all the steps in the self-help log for Windows 2000 and XP versions – I ran Spybot, Adaware, AVG Anti-Spyware and ATF Cleaner according to the directions – but it has not made any difference. My latest HJT log is as follows:

My computer has been almost completely useless for a week, I have tried everything I can think of on my own, and I am getting desperate. Please help!
Hello and Welcome to the Forum.

Please delete any HijackThis Folders and Files you have now.Use Add/Remove Programs and remove HijackThis. What you have now is out dated.

you can get a complete installer that installs HijackThis to C:\Program Files\HijackThis, making an entry in the start menu and also providing a desktop shortcut from http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/HJTsetup.exe.

Click on the link and select Save, save it to your desktop and double click HJTsetup.exe.

Open HijackThis and select: Do a system scan and save a log file.

When the scan is finished, Click Edit> Select All> Edit> Copy> and paste its contents here please use the [Add Reply] button below.
Hi!

As you can see from my original post, I had already downloaded the current version of HijackThis. In my most recent post, I mistakenly used an older version of the software to run the log – sorry for any confusion.

Anyway, here is a new log using the current HJT software:

Thanks for catching my mistake – and thanks for helping out with my slyware problems.
Not seeing anything bad. Did this start after you went to IE7?

Important: Do this before any fix.

Please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

The reason we do this is Hijackthis creates backup files just in case you'd need to restore one and we'll be cleaning out the temp files.

After the above:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tgcmd] "C:\Program Files\Support.com\bin\tgcmd.exe" /server
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BJCFD] C:\Program Files\BroadJump\Client Foundation\CFD.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [RealPlayer] "C:\Program Files\Real\RealPlayer\realplay.exe" /RunUPGToolCommandReBoot

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Sorry for the delay in getting back to you, but I have been having problems … Prior to our last exchange of messages, the computer seemed to be working somewhat faster than it had over the last few weeks. After I got your message, I checked the processes you indicated in HJT and hit "Fix checked", ran ATF Cleaner and rebooted. At the time of the reboot, there were no programs open, but while shutting-down, I got a message that the computer needed to "End Program ccApp" (I've never gotten that message before on shut-down). During shut down, the computer froze and did not complete the closure – I had to use the power button on the CPU to turn it off. When I rebooted, everything was working very slowly. I would click (or double-click) on a program (e.g. Outlook Express, or Solitaire) and the hour-glass would show for a LONG time, then it would disappear and nothing would happen for a LONG time. (Sometimes during this period, the computer clock would be working fine, sometimes it would not change time for 4 or 5 minutes, then suddenly catch-up.) Eventually, I left the computer (overnight). The next morning, Solitaire was open, and my wife played several games and later told me that it appeared to be working fine. Tonite, I tried to open Internet Explorer at 10:14. An hour glass appeared, but nothing else happened until about 10:23, when the hourglass disappeared. It is now 10:43 and IE still has not opened, and the hourglass is gone as well. It appears taht nothing is moving/changing on the computer except the clock. I cannot get anything else to open. (I am sending this to you from another computer.) Part of my concern is that, ever since the performance of the computer slowed, the Windows Task Manager has been showing that the CPU is running at 100% capacity, even though there are no programs running. I assume that this is still the case, even though I cannot open the Task Manager to check it. I'm not sure where to go from here – I suspect that if I let the computer sit long enough, the programs will eventually open. Let me know what you think. Thanks.
I suggest you do this: Uninstall Internet Explorer 7 to return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel." Click "Add or Remove Programs." Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box. Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click "Change/Remove."
I'm really kinda confused right now … I sat down Sunday morning (2/11) to implement the your latest guidance regarding Internet Explorer 7. As I was about to start, I got a message across the status bar at the bottom of the screen that said something like "AVG Anti-Spyware has now been downloaded and is protecting your computer." Now, I had downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware a week before (on 2/4), and had even run a scan or two with it (when I was following the instructions from the Self-Help portion of the site, before you responded to my first message. Is it possible that the AVG-AS program took THAT long to download? Is something else going on? Anyway, since then, the computer has been running MUCH better. It's still not quite as fast as it once was; it still gets hung-up on occasion; and the Task Manager is still showing that the CPU is running at 100% capacity, even though there are no programs running. But the performance is not unbearable. So, do you still think I should "Uninstall Internet Explorer 7 to return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP?" Should I try the diagnostics (HJT, Ad-Aware, Spy-bot) again? I'm lost! Thanks for hanging in with me – I appreciate your guidance and expertise.
