I went to bed last night with my computer working just fine. Wake up and this black screen with the message "DISK BOOT FAILURE. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." When I restarted the computer I got a whole bunch of wierd noises, clicking and such. I went into the BIOS, and changed the boot order to every conceivable thing, but it still won't load up. Right now, the computer is running, at that black screen, and the computer is making some noise that it never made before.
Can someone please help me out here. It's my fiance's computer and I'd like to have it fixed today if i can. There's files on there that we need.
Hi,
Sorry to hear of the problem with your computer.
Before you do anything else its very important that you take off from your hard drive copies of any important files, data, settings etc and keep them somewhere safe.
There could be a number of reasons for the symptoms you describe and one of these it that your hard drive is about to die. Hopefully it will be something less serious, but to be on the safe side, do not try and boot up your machine again. Multiple attemps to boot up, if your hard drive is about to expire, will just precipitate it's demise.
After taking all the required personal safety and anti static precautions remove your hard drive and put it in another computer or an external hard drive enclosure so that you can take off essential info.
If you are uncertain on exactly how to take off the data please post back for further instructions.
If you are not absolutely sure of the personal safety and antistatic requirements needed to remove your hard drive and take off your data, then it would be best to consult a local competent technician to do this for you as its great to save money but not at the risk of personal safety or damaging your machine.
If your machine is under warranty/guarantee, please consult the retailer/distributor/manufacturer, or their approved service centre before taking any action
