hi - can anyone suggest how to find the intermittent short in a motherboard that is driving me crazy? their used to be a way to spray a coolant on the board to find the short. is this still done? if yes, what kind of spray? any other suggestions?
thanks :-)
Hi,
Sorry to hear of the problem with you computer, any intermittent fault is likely to be difficult to diagnose, especially without knowing the exact symptons you are experiencing. I would not recommend spraying anything at all on to your motherboard (apart from removing dust with an "air duster".)
If you are experienced and knowledgable in the personal safety and antistatic requirements needed when operating on your computer then the following site may provide some avenues to investigate.
If you are not absolutely sure of the personal safety and antistatic requirements needed, then it would be best to consult a local competent technician, as it's great to save money but not at the risk of personal safety or damaging your machine.
If your machine is under warranty/guarantee, please consult the retailer/distributor/manufacturer, or their approved service centre before taking any action.

is this a new build, or a computer you had for awhile? if its a new build place it on nonconductive surface (out of the case) and fire it up to see if its shorting against the case. if its one you had and is developing problems i would check/replace the power supply.
