Also I need for you to delete combofix.exe.
There has been a new nasty out that will render it useless.
Do not use this tool for now. We were OK at the time we used it.
But now it should be deleted.

Hallo bob Life is becoming hard! Have downloaded WinPfind2 - install and open okay. But if i run the scan it seems nothing happen even if i don't do anything else. I left the computer on for more than 6 hours and all it say is scan… Not sure!?! Have deleted Combofix Haven't really had time to look at the start-up — seems I need to have a clear mind and time when i do it? Jaco
OK lets try this one.

For users running Windows 2000, XP or Vista

Download ComboScan to your Desktop.

Close all applications and windows.

Double-click on comboscan.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.

When the scan is complete, a text file will open - ComboScan.txt

Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of ComboScan.txt in your thread .

_______________________

A folder, C:\ComboScan, will also open. In it will be another text file, Supplementary.txt.

Please post Supplementary.txt to your post also.

Note: some firewalls may warn that sigcheck.exe is trying to access the internet - please ensure that you allow sigcheck.exe permission to do so.

Post that log and when you do have the time try the start up menu items. They should make a bit of a difference.
Hi Bob Yes, i'm still here and are trying - I took a break from work and are on leave till 10th March. Thats why things are more slow. I have a questian: How do i know what to delete in the start-up section. Had to down load combo scan a few times Jaco

Hi Bob

I have a questian: How do i know what to delete in the start-up section.

For this you look at your 04 lines in HJT or the exe.s in the start up section of msconfig. Now google them to look for good information on each line.

Let me do one for you.

O4 - Global Startup: Service Manager.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\binn\sqlmangr.exe

I took this line and googled sqlmangr.exe

It took me to this site whuich I trust completlyand told me.

This is a valid program but it is not required to run on startup.

Name: Service Manager
Filename: sqlmangr.exe
Command: Unknown at this time.
Description: SQL Server Service Manager - provides tray access to SQL server, the server agent and MSDTC. Available via Start -> Programs
File Location: Unknown
Startup Type: Currently being identified.

there for I know I can remove that from the start up entry.
Remeber if you make a mistake they are all fixable just by adding the check mark again.

Your log now appears to be clean.

Please do these in the order I suggest!

___________________________________
If we have set your computer to see all files and folders we must reprotect them.

UNDO SHOW ALL FILES
click on the My Computer icon.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
After the new window appears select the View tab.
Deselect in the checkbox labeled Display the contents of system folders.
Deselect the checkbox labeled Show hidden files and folders.
Select the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide file extensions for known file types.
Replace the checkmark from the checkbox labeled Hide protected operating system files.
Press the Apply button and then the OK .
Now many important files are safe.
