Welcome to the forum. Lets try this.

You may want to print this out as we will be offline for most of the fix

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Download the Stand Alone Version of CWShredder to your desktop.
  • Open CWShredder
  • Check for Updates
  • Close out the program. <– Dont run it yet

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop.
    • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
    • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
    • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
    • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

    • Under Reports
    • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
    • Un-Select Only if threats were found
    • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\System\panels\blank.htm
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\System\panels\blank.htm

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: winwum32 - winwum32.dll (file missing)

That bad entry is gone, how are things running, any better? CCleaner will always find temp files and such.

Try this other cleaner

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Run this quick scan and post the report
Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:
  • Double-click blbeta.exe
  • Then accept the agreement
  • leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked.
  • Click > scan then > next
  • You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.
  • Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"
ken545, Once again thanks for your help, I ran the blacklight program see list below. I also downloaded the atf cleaner cleaned the system out Now it's just a matter of wait and see what happens. Hello James

If you had something hidden , Blacklight would have found it.

If you can, run this free online scan from Panda, its good for finding things that may be hiding and not showing up on your log.

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.

1. Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
2. A new window will open…click the big "Check Now" button
3. Enter your Country
4. Enter your State/Province
5. Enter your e-mail address and click send
6. Select either Home User or Company
7. Click the big Scan Now button
8. If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
9. It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
Since you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
10. Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
11. Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
Save the log someplace.
12. reboot
13. Post Panda scan results in your next reply

James,

I am sure this is not part of your problem but lets delete them anyway, make sure windows is still enabled to show all files and folders.

C:\Documents and Settings\James\Favorites\shopping
C:\Documents and Settings\James\Favorites\Health

Lets do two things.
  • Open Hijackthis
  • Click on Misc Tools
  • Click on Uninstall Manager
  • Click on Save List
  • The list will open in Notepad
  • Copy and Paste the List into this thread.

  • Open HJT > Misc Tools
  • By the Generate a Startup List Log.
  • Check Both Boxes
  • Click on Generate a Startuplist Log.
  • Copy and Paste the log into your next reply.
ken545,
Here are the logs you wanted to see. Still no improvement, I'm beging to think it's memory or maya mother board issue. I do appreciate all the help you have provided me, Thanks Much!!!!!

Hello James :D

I am not looking at anything out of the ordinary. It seems all the scans are coming up clean. This may well be a windows or hardware issue so I am listing some sites for you to visit that may be better equipped to help you.

Before you do, open up the case and make sure its clean as a whistle, use compressed air to clean it all out. Sometimes heat is the villain, if your system is real dirty and runs hot it will shut on and off. Check every cable connected to your drives to the motherboard, check all your video cables, take your memory out and reset it back in making sure its all tight.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote , I'm glad I was able to help you. :D I will leave this thread open for you for a week or so in case you need to post back.

If you visit PCPitstop and take your system in for a checkup, you can post the report here for me to see.
ken545, I thought I would let you know I found the problem it was in the Service section of Windows XP there were two items enabled, that were not enabled before. MS shadow copy, and Volume Shadow copy disabled both of them, reboted the system and my computer is up and running again for the last 24 hours with no reboting problems. Thanks so much for your assistance and guidance (SUPER JOB). Once again thanks. James
Thats great James, glad you were able to fix it. I look for malware as sometimes it does just what you described, when there is none, it has to be a hardware or windows issue. ken :D
