Specifically, whenever I deal with the internet, especially larger loads or ANYTHING is downloading, the computer starts to skip, and it never did that before the last couple days.

Hi Sandstorm and welcome to the forums here at Tom Coyote.

I'm not seeing anything malicious in your log at this point. There are many issues that can contribute to reduced performance. Here are a couple of good links with some great suggestions on speeding up performance.

http://users.telenet.be/bluepatchy/miekiem…owcomputer.html
On step 4 in this link I highly recommend using ATF Cleaner. It's a great tool for clening up temp. files, cookies, cache, ect…

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main select the following:
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Here are a couple more great links:

If you do suspect that there is Malware present then I suggest downloading and running AVG Anti-Spyware.
Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program. The program can still be used after 30 days but loses some of the features such as real time scanning.
  • Load AVG Anti-Spyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Then click on the Scanner tab at the top. Click the "Settings" tab and then change the recommended action to Quarantine and click Automatically generate report after every scan. Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
  • AVG Anti-Spyware will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG Anti-Spyware will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot!
Post the report back here if anything is found and I'll be happy to take a look.

Another tool you can run is System Cleaner by Trend Micro. Follow this instructions from this link to download and run the tool.
http://esupport.trendmicro.com/support/vie…entID=en-125991

Try these suggestions and let me know how you make out.

Regards,
Dave
I cleaned up what these programs cleaned, which wasn't really much as I used others to dump programs…Let me try to more accurately describe what happens… Whenever my computer loads anything off of a website, such as whenever any pictures, or icons, something that needs to download, starts to load, the computer seems to skip. The mouse will jump slowly, and everything will slow down, music will skip, the whole works. This is also true for when everything is downloading. I would think that maybe my internet connection is slow, but why would the computer slow because the internet is slow, ex. the music already on the computer. I tried loading a page with a ton of stuff on it, and quickly switched to my task manager. The CPU usage jumped to over 50%, and even though I had sorted the processes in order of CPU, nothing came close to adding up that high, and the System Idle stayed in the 90s or high 80s. I can't explain it, I am not running anything else big, and again, this is a Core 2 Duo (2.0 GHz)
Hi sandstorm,

Your description of the problems you are having definitely sounds like a PC performance issue, not necessarily internet related speed wise. Let's run an online virus scan to see if anything is picked up there. Also, do you use and play Golden Palace Poker? Many of these gaming sites can cause issues (and many are valid and run without causing any problems). If you do not use it I would recommend that you uninstall it using Add or Remove Programs and then this line can be fixed with HJT.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on this:

O9 - Extra button: Golden Palace Poker - {40B2063F-DB01-4962-BE63-59435C01283C} - C:\PROGRA~1\GOLDEN~1\client.exe

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Using Internet Explorer, click on Kaspersky Online Scanner * You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click 'Yes'.
* The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
* Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click 'Next'.
* Now click on 'Scan Settings'
* In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: 'Extended' (If available, otherwise 'Standard')
o Scan Options: 'Scan Archives' and 'Scan Mail Bases'
* Click 'OK'
* Now under 'Select a target to scan' select 'My Computer'
* The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete, it will display whether your system has been infected.
* Now click on the 'Save as Text' button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
Please post the Kaspersky report and a new HijackThis log.

Hey sandstorm,

Kaspersky has come up squeaky clean and I still don't see anything malicious in your HJT log. I see you nuked the Poker site. That won't hurt if you don't use it.

The only other thing I notice at this point is you appear to be using Napster. You should always be careful using any P2P software. Honestly I'm not sure if this version is clean or not. Check out this link to find some safe tested ones.

If you are not using it I would definitely remove it also.

If you are still having performance issues after all the suggestions I gave you earlier then I would next head over to PC Pit Stop and look through the forums there. They also have a test you can run and will provide some suggestions. You can post there also to see if there's anything else you could try, that is one of their specialties. We mainly focus on Malware related issues here and at this point I am not seeing anything that makes me suspicious of that on your computer.

Regards and good luck,
Dave
