While trying to switch over to Verizon DSL the tech there said to turn off firewall and antivirus. After getting done I shut down my laptop. About an hour later I restarted and a system 32 window opened and started chugging through files. By the time I relaized something wasn't kosher my desktop had been reduced in size by about 2/3. All My Documents that weren't in seperate folders gone, favorites gone. I scanned several times found 1 Trojan, restored no luck. Here's my latest log. Let me know.

Hello gerryyy and Welcome to the TomCoyote Forums! :wavey:

We apologize for the delay in responding. We are swamped and occasionally some topics get overlooked.

I have some questions for you. I don't see anything outright bad in the log, but I do need to know if this is a business computer. Also, I can't see any indication of Anti-Virus or of a Firewall in the log. I understand the tech had you turn those off (which is absolutely not recommended in any case!) but I don't see any indications of those programs being there except for a Norton service which is loaded. The main resident and program doesn't seem to be running.

You have a remote access program installed and running.

C:\Program Files\Remote Support Host\RemoteSupportHost.exe
Auto-start entry also.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RemoteSupportHost] C:\Program Files\Remote Support Host\RemoteSupportHost.exe

My question, were you aware of this program? If so, you probably know that this means your machine can be remotely accessed… If not, I would suggest you do some more investigation with regard to this.

Also, from your global startups…
O4 - Global Startup: High Impact eMail 4.0 Professional.lnk = C:\Program Files\High Impact eMail 4.0\SendBatchMails.exe
I understand that this is used in a corporate environment… for making batch emails out of templates. I assume it could also be used for spam… but that's just my opinion. I couldn't find much info except from what I found while googling the program.
If you know what it is, and why it is there, then there is likely no need for concern. Same with the above remote program.

Could you provide more info as to what you mean by

By the time I relaized something wasn't kosher my desktop had been reduced in size by about 2/3. All My Documents that weren't in seperate folders gone, favorites gone. I scanned several times found 1 Trojan, restored no luck.

I'm not sure I understand. What was gone? Did you search for the files missing? Were they found anywhere? And lastly, which trojan was found, where and by what?

In order to understand the problem, we need to get this information.

When you reply, please include a new Hijack This log as things would likely have changed since your last post.
