Hi All,

A worm affecting the boot directory had invaded our PC, causing it to reboot itself over and over again in an infinite cycle. Luckily I was still able to do some scans and clean-ups.

Here is the AVG log:

The system no longer reboots itself incessantly, but it still takes quite a while for it start up. Nonetheless I'm sure it's not completely clean yet.

As always, any help would be greatly appreciated.!

Thanks in advance!
Welcome to the forum.

Enable hidden files:
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked.
Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK" (reverse this procedure when we are done)

——————-

Please find this file and upload it
HERE for a free scan - let me know the results.

C:\WINDOWS\wcidBHO.dll

——————

Clean out temp files:

Download and run ATF Cleaner - hit "select all" then just uncheck "cookies" (uncheck cookies is optional - leave it checked if you want to delete all cookies) then click "empty selected" That will clear out all the temp files on the system.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.
Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes if listed:

C:\DOCUME~1\a\LOCALS~1\Temp\exp1orer.exe

Exit the Task Manager when finished

Close ALL programs down, leaving ONLY HijackThis running - Click Scan and…..
Place a check against the following items:

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Userinit.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Syzmy3] C:\DOCUME~1\a\LOCALS~1\Temp\exp1orer.exe

Click on Fix Checked and exit HijackThis.

Make sure this file has been deleted:

C:\DOCUME~1\a\LOCALS~1\Temp\exp1orer.exe

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look. MrC
Thanks for replying, MrCharlie!

After performing the first step, whenever I go back to double-check, the bullet goes back to "Do not show hidden files and folders."
"Hide protected…" and "Hide extensions…" remain unchecked, however.

The result of the "wcidBHO.dll" file scan is as follows:

I went to the C:\DOCUME~1\a\ folder to look for the exp1orer.exe file and could not find it.
I also did a search for it found nothing.

OK, just wanted to make sure.

Looks like wcidBHO.dll belongs to norton confidence online, which is OK.

The rest looks OK.
