For some reason, my cpu usage is very high all the time. This is not the norm for me, but has been this way for the last week. I cannot figure out why.

Along with this high cpu usage, my puter is running just a bit slower. It usually is very fast, and still is, but I've noticed it hanging a few more seconds than it normally does.

I've done all that is necessary in safe mode, with the running of spywary/malmare/anti-virus programs…. but one thing I've noticed is this.

I downloaded "Error Nuker"… wasn't satisfied with it and so uninstalled it from install/uninstall programs. Then I ran C Cleaner to get rid of the left overs. I also ran other programs to get rid of the pieces that Ccleaner couldn't pick up. But it still remained… as an 'autostart'. I then ran a highjack this and checked it to get rid of this left over thing in safe mode…. but it's still there for some reason!! ??

Now, I don't know IF this is what is causing my high cpu usage or something else.. but this dang 'error nuker autostart' thing is just there… I cannot get rid of it??

How do I get rid of this thing?? And is this what is causing my high cpu usage??? Again, I never had this cpu usage problem until I downloaded and tried to uninstall this thing.

Here is my highjack this log:

Hello and Welcome to the forum.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Ad-Watch

Please disable Ad-Watch, as it may hinder the removal of some HijackThis entries. You can re-enable it after your computer is clean.

To disable Ad-Watch:

1. Right click on the Ad-Watch icon in the system tray and select "Restore Ad-Watch".
2. At the bottom of the screen there will be two checkable items called "Active" and "Automatic".Active: Switches Monitoring On or Off without closing
Automatic: Switches Automatic Blocking On or Off
3. Uncheck (red X) both items.

Defender
We need to disable your Windows Defender Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.

Open Windows Defender.

Click on Tools, General Settings.
Scroll down and uncheck Turn on real-time protection (recommended).
After you uncheck this, click on the Save button and close Windows Defender.

After all of the fixes are complete it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
Error Nuker
Windows Defender <–With the other programs you have, you don't need this running.

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - AutorunsDisabled - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Error Nuker] C:\Program Files\Error Nuker\bin\ErrorNuker.exe autostart
O20 - Winlogon Notify: AutorunsDisabled - C:\WINDOWS\

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] Button below to reply.
Thanks for the welcome.

Computer seems to be the same before I followed all the instructions. At least I haven't noticed any difference (yet)

:)
lets see if this will help speed it up.

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe

I recommend you download RegSeeker. Extract it to it's own folder, open and double click RegSeeker.exe to start the program. Maximize the window and click clean registry. Check all sections and click OK. When the scan is complete, verify the backup box in lower left corner is checked and click the select all button, then select all again. Then right click within the search results and select delete. Run it again and again, deleting everything it finds until it finds nothing. Reboot and make sure your programs are working properly, control panel and add/remove programs windows open, etc (basically just do a quick check of everything). In the event anything was 'broken', you can open RegSeeker, click backups and double click any/all files to put the information back. A reboot may be required for the effects to be seen. Reboot When done.

NOTE: To be extra safe you can choose to only remove the items in RED.
Some items may come back because of the programs you have running.
I did as you suggested. I've noticed a change and my programs and internet are a bit quicker now. Good stuff. But I was still having a problem with high cpu usage. I noticed in my Task Manager that three things were always running with a high output 1. Cmd.exe 2. net.exe 3. net1.exe I looked at my wifes computer and noticed that these things were not running in the Task Manager. So I went into my Autoruns.exe and turned off the items I suspected were causing this: Under HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services I unclicked "Secure" (Secure service) with the file path C:\Windows\System32\dat\mssvchost.exe and "smss" (smss service) with the same path. I restarted my computer and looked into Task Manager and lo and behold my cpu usage is back to normal.. around 2-5% Question: Is this spyware or something?? I've read that a dap file in windows system32 folder may be just that?? Thanks again for your help.
The first scan picked up 1 virus and 3 spyware. It ran through the cleaning mode but froze up half way… so I didn't get a chance to see what this virus/spyware was. After letting it sit for a couple of hours, with no progress, I shut it down and started a new scan. This time it picked up 2 spyware. 1) A possible hijack of Internet explorer in which my browser may be led to malware sites. 2) Possible malware that may have or is attempting to change my security settings. (But I wonder if that has to do with me changing the security settings to allow the F-Secure scanner to do its job on my cpu?)

Anyways, here is my new Log:

Oh, also, my computer seems to be fine most of the time (usually quick response with progams and internet) but sometimes it seems to be sluggish (that irrating hang time that I never use to get and slow responses) But right now, it seems to be running just fine!
Lets make sure these gone.

Delete the file and folder if listed
c:\Windows\system32\Dap\mssvchost.exe

c:\Windows\system32\Dap

Let me know if they are found.
You can remove any programs I had you install

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them.
Spywareblaster,
Spywareguard.

Also get a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Do not use Ad-aware if you have McAfee's VirusScan and AntiSpyware

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
