A few people were helping me out before summer with our computer that would mysteriously crash and reboot, almost always the same event information, RAM tests came up empty, fresh installs had been doneā¦
We finally took it to a computer place and they did every test under the sun and could not figure out what was wrong with it. We had pretty much settled on getting a new computer when dh began to notice just how often it would crash after the fan would kick in higher.
I found SpeedFan online, downloaded it and we tracked what the temperatures were doing. When the computer crashed, we'd quickly log back on, start up SpeedFan and see what the CPU temp was: around 69C. Dh purposefully did some things to tax the system while we watched the temp. It rose and rose hit 69 then crash. According to everything found about our CPU/chip online, it should have been okay at that temp, but it was obivously unhappy.
We got ourselves a new fan, have been keeping the temps around 55 or lower and all has been well since! Except for the malware we now have in it, but that's a whole other issue.
I just wanted to send out my thanks to those who had helped me in the past! Even if solutions weren't provided, it helped eliminate possibilities to lead us to what the real issue was.
