I am running a system with Win2k, AVG virus scan is active, and a new 250gig WD hard drive. I was browsing the internet when all of a sudden my browser locked up, nothing could be done to exit the browser and return to the desk top. I had to reboot my machine. Upon doing so, Windows wouldn't load and I came up with a MBR fault 0x0000007B and several parameters after. I did some research on the net with my laptop and found that I needed to run the recovery console from the Win2K disk. I did a chkdsk /p and it repaired several sections of the hard drive. I aslo ran the fixmbr. My system is still having problems on occasion.
Would some one take a look at the HJT record and tell me what to remove and IF there is actually a problem in it?
Here is my most current HJT:

Thank you for your time and help,

Hi erhmason,

Since you have used the excellent Malware Removal Forums here at TomCoyote before (Oct 18, 2006) you already know that is where HJT Logs belong. We don't do HJT analysis here in "Other Computer Problems"
Repost your HJT Log over in Malware Removal if you still wish to have that expert assistance. :)

In the meantime, you may want to uninstall (via Control Panel - Add/Remove) the intensely troublesome WhenUSave.

You'll also benefit from installing/updating and Running Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware SE Personal version 1.06.
__________

Windows 2000 is an excellent/stable operating system, but Microsoft decided to omit the useful tool: System Configuration Utility (also known as MSCONFIG) when it deployed Win2000.

Fortunately, MSCONFIG can be inserted into the Win2000 operating system. (the version from XP works just fine, and you can copy/paste it from an XP install CD if you have one.)
Or you can go here:
http://www.techadvice.com/win2000/m/msconfig_w2k.htm

You can use MSCONFIG - StartUp(tab) to get control of the various unnecessary applications and processes that you currently have Running from your Start Menu, each time you Boot.

After describing what you've done so far to resolve your problem, you state:

My system is still having problems on occasion.

Please be more specific about what problems continue to cause you trouble.

Please feel free to post back with your progress.

Best Regards
I tried removing the WhenUSave program (it came as a bundle from BearShare)……but it is not in the Add/Remove program selection. Erik
Hi erhmason, Using your HJT, let's generate a StartUp Log Click on "Open the Misc tool section" Put a checkmark(tick) in the box for List Empty Sections (Comlete) Press "Generate StartUp Log" Copy/Paste the StartUp log into your next Reply. Best Regards
Here is the Start up log as you requested………..Erik.

The item that raised concern for me is: C:\Program Files\Save\Save.exe Does the item "Save" or "Save.exe" appear in your Control Panel - add/Remove ? In the event that it does, you may benefit from uninstalling it. Otherwise, in regard to your HJT Log, please be patient as you wait for a qualified expert to analyse your HJT Log over in the Malware Removal Forum. As for what we can do here to assist regarding: Error 0x0000007B, you have already taken the most frequently recommended action (chkdsk /p and fixmbr). The cause of your problem if it still exists, can be related to many things from Corrupt OS, corrupted drivers, failed drives, etc. More information about the actual continuing problem may help narrow it down. What specifically are the symptoms that you continue to occassionally experience? Best Regards
Save, USave or anything that is associated with it isn't there. As I was using my PC last night, the entire system shut down, complete loss of system info. I had to run the fixmbr, and when I was able to get back to my system desktop, all settings and icon were gone. I am now in contact with Western Digital about this. I believe that I have a bad sector on the hard drive causing the failure. Thanks, Erik
