ITBQAM, :D

Welcome to Tom Coyote You have a couple of bad programs that are messing with your internet connection. We have to be very careful that we don't damage it.

Not always but sometimes removing NewDotNet will disrupt your internet access, so download this tool first to your desktop, only use it in the event you lose internet access after removing NewDotNet.
Winsockxpfix

Please open your Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel and uninstall New.Net or NewDotNet from there if listed. If it is not listed, follow these instructions:
  • From a computer that has Internet access, click on the following link:
    Uninstall .
  • Download and save uninstall6_90.exe to the Desktop.
  • Go to the Desktop and double-click on uninstall6_90.exe
  • Click on the OK button.
  • After removal, you may be prompted to reboot. Please reboot even if not prompted.

  • Please download LSPFix from here.
  • Disconnect from the internet.
  • Go to where you downloaded LSPFix and run the LSPFix.exe by double clicking on it.
  • Check the I know what I'm doing box.
  • In the Keep box you should see one or more instances of rlls.dll
  • Select every instance of rlls.dll and move each one to the Remove box by clicking the >> button.
  • When you are done click Finish>>.
Again, if you have internet access problems, run Winsockxpfix if needed.

Reboot normally , open HJT Scan Only , close your browser and all open windows, check these and click on Fix Checked

You can fix these also, if its something you know about and use than leave it, if not remove them, they will come back if needed next time you visit the site.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Post a new HJT log please
Thanks for the help, my system is almost back to normal. I still can't change my home page and when I did the scan and clicked "fix this" the files came back after I re-booted. Also couldn't find this one:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [New.net Startup] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2.DLL,ClientStartup -s

Here is the new log.

Sorry……one more thing. I just tried to use "fix" again in HJT and the files are still there without re-booting. Does the "fix this"command delete the file or just repair it?
ITBQAM,

These are not files, there registry entries and I see nothing on your log that's preventing them from being deleted.

Lets clean a few other things up.

Clean out your Temporary Internet files. Proceed like this:
  • Quit Internet Explorer and quit any instances of Windows Explorer.
  • Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click Internet Options.
  • On the General tab, click Delete Files under Temporary Internet Files.
  • In the Delete Files dialog box, tick the Delete all offline content check box , and then click OK.
  • On the General tab, click Delete Cookies under Temporary Internet Files, and then click OK.
  • Click on the Programs tab then click the Reset Web Settings button. Click Apply then OK.
  • Click OK.
Next Click Start, click Control Panel and then double-click Display. Click on the Desktop tab, then click the Customize Desktop button. Click on the Web tab. Under Web Pages you should see a checked entry called Security info or something similar. If it is there, select that entry and click the Delete button. Click Ok then Apply and Ok.

Empty the Recycle Bin by right-clicking the Recycle Bin icon on your Desktop, and then clicking Empty Recycle Bin.

Reboot and lets run HJT again, make sure your browser is closed as is all open windows, the only thing you should have open is HJT.

Check these and click on Fix Checked

This won't be there it was removed when we removed Newdotnet, it was just a doublecheck.

These are your call, poker is fun but sometimes brings bad things along with it.

Do this, go to where you have HJT installed and rename Hijackthis.exe to Analyze.exe ( it looks like a stick of dynamite with a plunger ) Just right click on the HJT Icon and then click on rename.

Post a new HJT log.

ITBQAM,

You did not rename HJT, the reason for it is that there are infections going around that are written to evade HJT and by renaming it to something else, entries may show up on your log that are not being shown.

Try booting to safemode and removing these.

If there still there, another thing to try is to right click on Norton Security suite and disable it temporarily.

Post a new log when your done
Log still shows some stuff but system works good now. When I open explorer I get a blank page that won't change but I created a shortcut to yahoo that works fine. Thanks for all the help.

These are more clutter and not really malware, but they should be fixed, try right clicking on the Norton Icon in the system tray by the clock and disable all the Norton programs and then see if it will go away. The one entry that you did remove that referenced Red Clients was not a yahoo site.

Do you know how to set your homepage? You may have Spybot Search and Destroy configued to lock your homepage.

Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> IE Tweeks> and make sure that Lock the IE Start page is not checked.
Look for the option in Norton, I am sure its in there someplace, I just have the stand alone AV program so I am not familiar with the complete suite that you have.

Then open IE, browse to the page you want as your start page, like yahoo.com or whatever, then to to Tools> Internet Options> you should be on the General Tab and click on Use Current.

Now that your clean, we need to erase all possible older infected files that may still be lurking on your system.

Here are Free Anti-Virus Programs if you need one. Just install one because with AV software…MORE IS NOT BETTER.
Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE- Spyad IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox Browser It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
