Hi BranMuffin33, Sorry to take so long, the analysis of your log is complete and I am preparing the post and you should have it soon. We would appreciate your help with an item that is in your log. Our experts have called my attention to an item they are trying to collect information about. This will lead to easier ways to fix this problem in the near future. If you would follow these instructions it would much be appreciated.

Download this zip.

http://tools.zerosrealm.com/pv.zip

unzip it to the desktop.

Be sure to have at least 1 internet explorer open.

Double click on the runme.bat
Select option 2 for iexplorer dll's

Notepad will open with a log in it. Please copy and paste the log into this post.

Thanks, pskelley

and SpywareInfo.
BranMuffin33. You might want to print these instructions.

We fixed the double post, it does help if you only post once, as two people could end up working one post tying up resourses. In the future, please only post once, and always stay in that thread until the issue is resolved and closed. Thanks

Please let us know where Housecall is saying these trojans are, they are probably in System Restore and can't be cleaned by Housecall. If this is the case, we will turn System Restore off, reboot and back on to clear the trojans.
We will do this later in this post.

I need to make you aware that your HijackThis.exe is not safe in the temporary situation it is in. It can't safely store backups in this position. You should have received this message:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/images/unsafefolder.gif
Please follow the instructions in this next link to place the HijackThis.exe in a new folder on the C:\ that will look like this: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe.
http://russelltexas.com/malware/faqhijackthis.htm

With all other explorer windows closed including this one, open HijackThis, click on scan and place a check in front of each of the following line items and choose "Fix Checked".

Then please show hidden files:
* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Right click on Start then Explore. Using the tree to the left locate and delete these files or folders:

C:\Program Files\ClearSearch\CSIE.DLL >>folder

Once this is completed, empty the recycle bin and reboot the computer.

Then download Spybot S&D from here: http://majorgeeks.com/download2471.html and
Ad-aware SE from here: http://lavasoft.element5.com/support/download/ then follow
the instructions at this link: http://www.cjwdavis.co.uk/s-a.html to configure each program. You might want to print
the instruction as they are detailed and it is important as these programs will locate and remove items we can't get to in any other way. The settings
will be retained for future usage, so you will only need to do this once.

When complete, go to Start then Run. In the Run Command box type "cleanmgr" with no quotes, allow the program to run and delete all suggested items found by windows. At that point post a fresh log for us to view and do not forget the information about the trojans from your anti-virus software.

Thanks for the help, pskelley. When you posted this someone had already helped me fix those problems. Since then, I have a whole new set of problems. I think that maybe when I "fixed" it before, I didn't completely fix it and it came back? maybe? Anyhow, here is my hijackthis log:

Maybe we can get it straight this time. Thanks again!
Hi BranMuffin33, I have been asked to find out who has been helping before, so we will know what happened. It would be good if you can link us to the thread where you were receiving this help. (copy and paste the link to this thread) Then we, along with them can decide where to continue the help. It is best for you to only work with one post, much confusion could occur otherwise. I will not like to proceed with your post until I hear from you and we both have a clear picture of what is occuring and what help you are receiving and from where. Thanks…pskelley
OK BranMuffin33, Stick with me, I am clearing the air a little and starting with a new post that is being reviewed right now. As soon as it is released, I will post it for you. Give it a little time, we will work together to clean up whatever remains in your log. Thanks…pskelley
Hi BranMuffin33,
First….if you have any information, logs, etc., that do not apply to what we are working on right now, please move this information into a file out of the way so we do not cross-contaminate our information. Once you are clean you can go back and review it if you wish. Thanks

It looks like you have gotten infected again, once the log is clean, I will give you information that will help you keep this from happening in the future. Please follow these directions carefully as our success depend on this.
Looks like three threads were started. I will work with you to see if we can clean up whatever was missed. I would like to start with a new log, but first please follow these instructions.

Download Spybot S&D from here: http://majorgeeks.com/download2471.html and
Ad-aware SE from here: http://lavasoft.element5.com/support/download/ then follow
the instructions at this link: http://www.cjwdavis.co.uk/s-a.html to configure each program. You may want to print
the instructions as they are detailed and it is important as these programs will locate and remove items we can't get to in any other way. The settings
will be retained for future usage, so you will only need to do this once.
Follow the instructions, run Spybot S&D first with a reboot between the programs. Please note the free Spybot 1.3 does have a slight bug…it detects some DSO exploits falsely. Hopefully an upgrade will fix this. The problem is not serious and should not deter people from using Spybot.

After you complete this, please run these two online scans, turn off your McAfee during the scans so they won't conflict, reboot when finished, make a note of anything the scans find when you post your next log.
http://www.pandasoftware.es/activescan/activescan-com.asp
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Allow the software to remove anything it locates.

When complete, go to Start then Run. In the Run Command box type cleanmgr and then ok. Allow the program to run and windows to remove anything it finds. Then post a new log in this thread.

Thanks, pskelley

Hi BranMuffin33, Please be patient, we are making progress. I did notice an item in your log on Sept. 9, that indicated there might be a CoolWebSearch infection. This item is not in your latest log. I wish to be sure it is gone as they have a way of showing up and are hard to remove. I am clearing this proceedure now, and as soon as it is cleared, will post these instructions for you. Thanks…pskelley
Hi BranMuffin33,
You did a good job, thanks. I noticed an item in the last log that is related to CoolWebSearch, and would like to run the CWShredder tool to make sure it is gone. I will give you a link to where you can download this tool. Follow the instructions in the second link as it is a tutorial for using the removal tool. We will run this tool in SAFE MODE, so you will wish to print the instructions as you will not be able to see this window while in the safe mode. As the instructions indicate, make sure you choose FIX and not scan. Make a note of any information the tool gives you about anything that was there or has been removed, and post this information with your next log.
Download the tool here: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html This is the latest version as the update is down due to denial of service attacks from malware writers, and updates are temporarily unavailable.
Then follow the direction for the proper use of this tool here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind…showtutorial=47
Please run this tool twice.
Here are instructions for entering the safe mode:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…Src=sec_doc_nam

Then run HijackThis and fix these items:
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

Empty the recycle bin , reboot the computer and post a new log so we can see if we have been succesful.

Thanks, pskelley

Looks good BranMuffin33, here are a couple of links that are very important for keeping it that way.

How in the world did this happen in the first place, thanks to Tony Klein for this information:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051

And now that I am clean, how do I stay that way, thanks to Texruss for this information:
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm

My suggestion is that you review the information at these links and implement the proceedures to help you to stay clean. Save your last log and compare it to periodic logs you run keeping an eye out for problems. Make sure all security programs are updated and run on a regular basis. Good Luck,
Thanks, pskelley
