I just reninstalled Windows recently and was only installing fairly safe(as far as I know from experience) programs and decided before I went any further to search for malware. Trend Micro Antispyware found 3 registry entries and labeled them as TSPY trojans. I ran scans with numerous other programs including AVG Antispyware, Ad-Aware, Symantec Antivirus, the spyware scanner you get with Zone Alarm Pro, Spybot and Trojan Hunter as well as Avast Virus Cleaner(maybe a little over the top but I wanted to check if any other program I used found these same entries but none of them did. I've read that Trend Micro Antispyware has a habit of showing entries that are supposed to be of the TSPY malware variety and when I checked out some of the registry entries mentioned that were actually to do with ATI software and I doubt that has malware in it! The one things that make me suspect I might have actually have these infections is my firewall blocked a connection not long after but that's about it and every half hour of so my internet connection stops and I need to wait a few mins before it gets back on(I'm using Cable Broadband), I need generally to turn the modem off and on again after about 30 seconds or so, sorry if I'm rambling on.

Here's the HijackThis log, I was also considering posting the one with the suspected malware but wasn't sure if this site allowed logs from that program to be posted on it.

The rest of your log looks fine  But to be on the safeside, run the free online virus scanner from Panda, it will produce a log, copy and paste the log into this thread. This will only run from IE.

Panda ActiveScan <—-Accept default settings

Also I ran the Panda online program and it found 2 spyware entries it couldn't disinfect. They are on my Flash drive and under system restores and I have no idea how to delete the system restore for that drive. Any advice?

I was also wondering how you can tell where spyware came from, like if a program installed it what was the program? A lot are registry entries and they don't give someone whose not overly knowledgeale of these things much of an idea of where they came most of the time.
person

Those two entries are gone, they might have been removed by Panda or another scan you may have run.

If you would have posted the Panda log like I asked, it may have pointed to those entries and I could have helped you remove them. It sounds like they may be backed up in System Restore, follow the instructions I am posting to clear out all previous restore points and to create a current one.

As far as where it came from, don't know, you have to be real careful what you download, be leary of opening email attachments, and stay away from most of the file sharing programs like Bearshare and Kazaa

Run this system cleaner
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Java website and download and install the update.
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 9 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify

Then go open IE and go to Tools> Windows Updates and download and install Service Pack 2, your Operating System is very out of date. Install every critical update thats available, just do not install any driver files.

The rest of your log looks fine

I'm going to reinstall Windows soon(I realise I don't need to but I want to be extra carefull and importantly install the bare esstentials including security programs and Windows updates and then make a image of my C drive parition in case I need it. I was going to post my Panda log when I reread your reply but I was a bit slack and you've already replied now, sorry! The tutorial on restore points didn't seem to help much as this is a flash drive and has its own way of using system restore. Thanks for the advice, I will be doing alot it when I reinstall to try and not get into this situation again
