Possible Smitfraud? HJT log

My friends computer looks like it has a smitfraud problem, however it's acting different than the one I had last month and it won't allow him to access this page to post his hijack this log, so I am doing it for him. Here is the Hijack this log. Thanks.

Hello kelbel and Welcome to the TC Forums.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

Please download the trial version of AVG anti-spyware 7.5from here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
  • Install AVG anti-spyware anti-malware.
  • When installing, under Additional Options uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu.
  • When you run AVG anti-spyware for the first time, you could get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click Ok.
  • The program will prompt you to update. Click the Ok button.
  • The program will now go to the main screen.
You will need to update AVG anti-spyware to the latest definition files.
  • On the left-hand side of the main screen click the Update Button.
  • Click on Start.
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once finished updating, close AVG.

If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update ewido.
AVG anti-spyware manual updates. Make sure to close AVG anti-spyware before installing the update.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.


IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Sorry but we jumped the gun a little and followed the instructions for a smitfraud fix in the self help section. I stopped short of option #3 Restoring Trusted Zone, but here are the logs.

  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  • Now click on Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  • Standard
  • Scan Options:
  • Scan Archives
  • Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:
  • Select My Computer
  • This will program will start and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
Copy and paste that information from Kapersky in your next post.

Hello kelbel,

Just a few files left to get rid of.

You are running HijackThis from its zipped archive; please create a new folder for it and unzip the program into it. It is very important you do this before anything else! Please do not have hijacthis in a temporary folder either.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Scan with HijackThis. Place a check against each of the following:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [seekmo] "c:\program files\seekmo\seekmo.exe"
Close all windows or browsers except for Hijackthis. Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
c:\program files\seekmo\<=folder
C:\Program Files\VideoCompressionCodec\isaddon.dll<=file
C:\Program Files\VideoCompressionCodec\isamini.exe<=file
C:\Program Files\VideoCompressionCodec\isamonitor.exe<=file
C:\Program Files\VideoCompressionCodec\isauninst.exe<=file
Exit Explorer, and reboot as normal afterwards.

Empty your recycle bin.
Please run Kapersky and let's see if those infected files are gone. We will take care of infected _restore files later.

Hello kelbel, I have not heard from you so I do not know what your status is. If you are still having problems with the smitfraud, I would recommend that you repeat the self-help fix with downloading the smitfraud fix again. The fix is constantly being updated. The version you ran was: SmitFraudFix v2.110 The current version is SmitFraudFix v2.114 I believe that the newer fix would address the files that were left that I was asking you to delete. Please let me know what your status is.
