ok, so recently I had to reinstall my os software. Because of this I no longer had Hijack this installed on my computer. So, I go to google and search for Hijack this - Tom coyote. well, I clicked on this link for Hijack this: HijackThis Quick Start - TomCoyoteMany people download and run HijackThis after visiting a Computer Tech Help Forum. … Click the Save Log button to create a file named Hijackthis.log. … www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/ - 16k - Cached - Similar pages The fifth one down. I go to the page and click the button on the right. next to the flashing green light. I download it and unzip it and mcAfee pops up saying that the file was infected with the W32/Generic.worm!p2p virus. Therefore, I'd love to give you a hijack this log. Except I am no longer trusting of Hijack this downloads. Send me a link to the right one please and I'll be happy to give you a log to see if remnants of the virus is still there. thanks so much for your help. - mmdogg01

These are links to the EXE, not a ZIP.

I fear, however, this will not solve your problem.

Your problem most likely is McAfee.

Older versions incorrectly detect HijackThis.exe as a virus.

I think you'll have to find some way to get it to your machine on a floppy, CD, thumbdrive, whatever.

Then, completely disconnect from the Internet.

This means physically unplugging your connection.

Turn off McAffe.

Copy HijackThis! over to the C: drive and make a log file.

Turn McAffe on (it will probably delete HijackThis!).

Connect to the Internet and post your log.

Unless you can find a way to get McAffe to ignore it, or switch to a newer version, or dump McAfee altogether in favor of something else.

It's not looking "easy" at this point.
:(
oK, what I did was I turned off McAfee while leaving ewido running. I downloaded hijackthis and didn't save it. just ran it. I saved the logfile. here it is.

So, By the way thank you very much for helping me. I just had to reinstall all my os software plus like 8 drivers for various things like sound and modem and router. all because of someone who didn't know what they were deleting before they deleted it. well, anyways that's a whole different story. Thanks again.
oh, sorry, it's just I was having a problem downloading hijack this. I thought I had the virus that mcAfee said I had but, apparently, it was a false alarm. The reason I needed hijack this is because of a google toolbar whose .dll files I wanted to delete but were in use or something. I wanted to use the misc. tools to delete on reboot. Thanks for your help though. I guess you could take this out of the thread if you want. sorry about the false alarm. I was having problems with my computer before I had to reinstall the OS. After I reinstalled XP I just had to reinstall a lot of drivers and software that went missing when it crashed. Thank you a lot though. Adieu et J'apprécie votre aide beaucoup.
