Hi sferri2:

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

Is there any indication which program is advising you of Trojans ?
If not, it could be a ROGUE Program that is attempting to get you to download their useless, or even dangerous program(s). Never click on any link that is offered in that manner. You could get infected by simply clicking on it.

First, go into Safe Mode.
To Boot into Safe Mode:
Restart your computer and immediately begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard.
If done right a Windows Advanced Options menu will appear. Select the Safe Mode option and press Enter.

Go to Start | Run and type this in the box: services.msc
  • Locate these services, 'Atheros Configuration Service (ACS) and Secure HTTP (Service Secured) ' then right click and select properties.
  • Under Service Status: select Stop
  • In the drop down box labeled, Startup Type: select Disabled
Then, reboot into Normal Mode.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

O3 - Toolbar: Dictionary.com - {11359F4A-B191-42D7-905A-594F8CF0387B} - C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\lexbar.dll (file missing)

O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)
O23 - Service: Atheros Configuration Service (ACS) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ACS.exe
O23 - Service: Secure HTTP (Service Secured) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\csrvs.exe (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders shown DARK and delete them, if still present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ACS.exe
C:\WINDOWS\csrvs.exe

Please perform a search for the following files shown DARK and delete all instances. Windows XP's search feature is a little different. When you click on 'All files and folders' on the left pane, click on the 'More advanced options' at the bottom. Make sure that Search system folders, Search hidden files and folders, and Search subfolders are checked.
xpnetdiag.exe

Exit Explorer, enable hidden files and reboot.

If you were unable to delete any of the files, then please follow these additional instructions:
Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run it, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.
Let the system reboot.

Hi sferri2:

Scan type: Auto-Protect Scan
Event: Security Risk Found!
Threat: Trojan.Zlob
File: C:\WINDOWS\system32\ldE426.tmp

Have you checked in system32 for that file ?
Is it Norton/Symantec that is reporting it ?

I see no indication of it in Hijack This, or in the Ewido report. Both look to be clean. It is part of Smitfraud and has been quite prolific recently.
New variants pop up almost daily.

I take it you are still receiving those advisorys ?

Lets see if anything shows up in the SmitfraudFix report.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc…processutil.htm

Caution: Running SmitfraudFix in option #2 on an uninfected machine will remove your desktop background.

Please post the Smitfraud fix report into this topic.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.
I am still seeing the pop-up trojan box. It is being alerted by Symantec. I have searched for the file but it is not there. This is the smitFraud report. Hi sferri2:
Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work.
Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

Smitfraud is verified.

Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process. A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Then please restart into Normal Windows.

Please post the contents of the SmitfraudFix log located at C:\rapport.txt into this thread, along with a new HijackThis log.

Please use the [external image: Posted Image] button to reply.
