Need urgent help. "spontaneous" programs termination

Hi there.

Norton, spybot and other antivirus stuff are blocked by malware. When attempting to open one of these programs, they open and after a second get closed "spontaneously". Also the file that contains the antivirus programs in the pc folder is blocked in a similar way.
When I try to download an antivirus, the explorer windows is closed immediately after it reaches the download site.

Please help.
Thanks in advance

I want to check some things before beginning any cleaning operations.

Run Hijack This!.

Click on Open Misc Tools section

To the right of Generate Startuplist log, there are two boxes.

Check them both, then click Generate Startuplist log.

"Copy/paste" the startuplist log into this thread.
Dear Micah,

thanks for your time :)

here is the startup log. I think you need to know that meanwhile we managed to improve the situation by doing a system restore. PC runs much more smoothly now, yet there is still a problem with the Norton anivirus. I run it twice, the first time it recognized 9 infections, but got stuck towards the end of the check (file 111000 or so). The clock kept running, and I could not close its dialog box. I restarted the pc and a similar pattern was repeated, and Norton found 4 additional threats two of which he could deal with, two of which it coul not: wmdmp.exe/DialersSplanet.
Since we made the system restore, I assume you'll need a fresh hijack this scan, which I have done now and have added here after the startup log.

Thanks a lot! :)
Yehuda

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=D:\WINDOWS\System32\Userinit.exe

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Reboot.

Does your system32 folder open when you boot?
Dear Micah, I can't stop the norton antivirus from running. It starts by itself at startup, and then it can't be closed. so I can't close all programs before running hijackthis… can I run hijackthis anyway? Thanks for now Yehuda
Hi, Micah, :) please ignore my last message, I managed to avoid the norton window by running hijackthis in safe mode. I checked the: F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=D:\WINDOWS\System32\Userinit.exe and clicked: fix checked. On reboot the sys 32 folder did not open. BTW the problem with the antivirus persists. :rant2: I disabled the antivirus by running msconfig / start up configuration, so norton did not load. So the situation is that or I have it all the time or I don't have it at all. Would it be wise to download another (AVG) antivirus so as to get some protection in the meanwhile? Thanks Yehuda
Hi Micah, :)

At first all antivirus programs went under attack,( Quote: … they open and after a second get closed "spontaneously"…).

After system restore, this problem stopped :P : we could run the antivirus that could even find a dozen of infections,
yet after it reached the pc's last scannable file ( 111000 ca., the usual no. of my pc files)
the dialog box did not close by itself as usual and the clock in the dialog box kept running.
The close command in the program was disabled, so we could not close it manually. :(
All this never happened before. <_<

Another problem is that after every reboot an antivirus scan is sponataneously initiated, whithout it being prompted by us. We tried everything in the norton configuration menus, with no success. The only way we could stop the "invasion" was to disable norton (VPtray) in the start menu command, but of course now it is totally disabled, and this leaves us where we begun: antivirus is malfunctioning.

Is there anything else I could do?
thanks in advance
Yehuda
Hi Micah,

I'll follow your advise. My wifey confessed  she had made some changes to the norton, <_< which she undoed this evening. Scan does not start by itself and the close window botton is clickable again.
Besides this, the pc is runnin much smoother, and I owe you a great thank you for this.
It still gets stuck on the Explorer once in a while, but I take there are no more entries in the hijack that should be checked and and fixed, since you did not mention them.
I went to your web site. It's great, pure non-cholesterolic protein!
I'll run a few checks with the online scan you recommended.
If there is still something I need to do, please let me know.

And if I may add an off-topic phonetic remark: You nick (name?) Micah is pronounced in hebrew Michah. Like german"achtung" or dutch gude nacht or spanish "joder"

In case you'd like to know in the non-biblical sense ;)

All the best my friend, and thanks again! :D :D :D
