Hello,

I ran bit defender checker and another online scanner. I have done ad aware. I can't seem to get rid of it. I have downloaded the new hi jack this and here is my log. Any help would be great. I think I have a few things going on.

Hi cschoon.

Welcome to TomCoyote forums! I'm looking over your log now, and will post back soon.

Until I complete my training, everything that I post to you must be checked by an expert - so there may be a small delay between posts.

Thanks for your patience. :)
Hello,

Thank you. I think I have fixed it. I saw on another post someone ran clean40 I think off the top of my head in safe mode. I also then ran ewido in safe mode after that. I then rebooted in normal mode and ran adaware and online bitdefender and I also ran bitdefender standard 9 on my computer after that. crazywinning has been removed from trusted site zones and everything seems to be ok.

I have posted my new hijackthis log below:

Thank you
Hi cschoon.

I am sorry that you were unable to wait for my reply to your post - I was waiting for an expert to review my proposed 'fix'.

I am not sure that you have fully solved your problem. There are still a couple of items on your HijackThis log. It's possible that the scans you did have removed most of the problem.

You are running both Sophos and BitDefender. It is not a good idea to have two real-time anti-virus programs running at the same time. Running two simultaneously increases system instability and actualy decreases their overall effectiveness/reliability. I strongly suggest that you uninstall one of them.

Let's clean up the remaining items on your HJT log.

Run HijackThis and click Scan and then check (tick) the following, if present (don't worry if any are missing):
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [sF4W35O] pstdx.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [dov6RRi3X] pscertui.exe

Close down all programs, browsers and other open windows. Make sure that only the above items are checked and then click on Fix checked.

HijackThis may not remove all of the files relating to the fixed items. We therefore need to check this and delete them if necessary. First we need to make sure that you can see all of the files.
  • Click Start
  • Open My Computer
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options
  • Select the View tab
  • Advanced Settings: Under Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files and folders
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (Recommended) option
  • Click Yes to confirm
  • Click OK
Click on Start then Search and look for the following files. They will probably be in the C:\Windows\System32 or C:\Windows folder.
  • pstdx.exe
  • pscertui.exe
Delete both files, if found.

Next, let's clean things up a bit and then run another online scan.

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune © from here : http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=1
It is a stand-alone program that does not need to be installed. Save it to a convenient location and make a shortcut on your desktop. Using this program will remove temporary internet files and cookies from your system, which will mean that any scans will run faster.
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main, choose Select All
  • Click Empty Selected
  • If you use Firefox browser,
    • Click Firefox at the top and choose Select All
    • Click on Empty Selected
    • NOTE: If you would like to keep any saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
  • Click Exit to close.
Kaspersky Online Scanner

Using Internet Explorer, click on Kaspersky Online Scanner
  • You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click 'Yes'.
  • The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
  • Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click 'Next'.
  • Now click on 'Scan Settings'
  • In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: 'Extended' (If available, otherwise 'Standard')
    • Scan Options: 'Scan Archives' and 'Scan Mail Bases'
  • Click 'OK'
  • Now under 'Select a target to scan' select 'My Computer'
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete, it will display whether your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the 'Save as Text' button:
  • Save the file to your desktop.
Please post a new HijackThis log and the Kaspersky report as a reply to this thread.
Did as you asked. Did not find the two files listed after I checked them in hjt.

Scan process completed.
Hi cschoon.

Thanks for posting the logs. Yes, both logs are clean. I note that the two anti-virus programs are still running.

You are running both Sophos and BitDefender. It is not a good idea to have two real-time anti-virus programs running at the same time. Running two simultaneously increases system instability and actualy decreases their overall effectiveness/reliability. I strongly suggest that you uninstall one of them.

Continuing to run both of them could cause you serious problems.

This is my standard 'speech' once someone's computer is clean. Forgive me if you already do some, or all, of the following.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
  • Disable and Enable System Restore - You should disable and then re-enable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point. You can find instructions on how to enable and re-enable system restore here: Windows XP System Restore Guide
  • Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
    • From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Internet Options.
    • Click once on the Security tab
    • Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
    • Click once on the Custom Level button.
      • Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to 'Prompt'
      • Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to 'Disable'
      • Change the Initialise and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to 'Disable'
      • Change the Installation of desktop items to 'Prompt'
      • Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to 'Prompt'
      • Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to 'Prompt'
    • When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
    • If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
    • Next press the OK button to exit the Internet Properties page.
  • Use an Anti-Virus Software - It is very important that you have an anti-virus program running on your computer. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future. See this link for a list of some online and stand-alone anti-virus programs:
Computer Safety On line - Anti-Virus
  • Update your Anti-Virus Software - It is imperative that you update your anti-virus software at least once a week (even more if you can). If you do not update your anti virus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
  • Use a Firewall - I cannot stress how important it is that you use a firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a firewall in its default configuration can greatly lower your risk. For an article on firewalls, and a list of some available ones, see this link:
Computer Safety Online - Software Firewalls
  • Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit Windows Update regularly. This will ensure you always have the latest security updates installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
  • If they are not already present, I would recommend that you download and install some, or all, of the following programs (all free):
    • Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option.
This will provide real-time spyware and hijacker protection on your computer, alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti virus software. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here: Instructions for Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware
    • Ad-Aware SE Personal - Install and download Ad-Aware SE Personal. You should also scan your computer with the program on a regular basis just as you would an anti-virus software in conjunction with Spybot. A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here: Instructions for Spybot S&D and Ad-Aware
    • SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will add a large list of programs and websites into your Internet Explorer and/or Firefox browser settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs. A article on anti-malware products with links for this program and others can be found here: Computer Safety on line - Anti-Malware
  • Update all of these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected will reduce dramatically.

Please reply to confirm that you have read this post, so that we can close this thread.
Hello,

Thank you for the input. However, How do I get only one virus software??? I didn't know I had sophos, I will check add/remove programs. Any suggestions on how to get rid of that one.

Thank you

Craig

Ooops! I just removed sophos from my machine I have posted a new log of hjt:

If you take a peak at it and tell me I am clean, close this thread:

Thank you once again
Hi cschoon.

It looks as though the installer didn't remove all traces of Sophos. Otherwise, the log is clean.
  • Click on Start then Run
  • Type (or copy/paste) services.msc into the text box
  • Right-click on 'Sophos Anti-Virus ' in the list of services
  • Click on the Stop button
  • Select Disabled from the Startup type: drop-down box
  • Click on OK
Run HijackThis and click Scan and then check (tick) the following, if present (don't worry if it's missing - we're just double-checking):

O23 - Service: Sophos Anti-Virus (SWEEPSRV.SYS) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Sophos SWEEP for NT\SWEEPSRV.SYS (file missing)

Close down all programs, browsers and other open windows. Make sure that only the above items are checked and then click on Fix checked.

Still in HijackThis
  • Click on the Config… button and then Misc Tools
  • Click on Delete an NT service…
  • Type (or copy/paste) SWEEPSRV.SYS into the text box
  • Click on OK
Please run another HijackThis scan and post the log as a reply to this thread. How is your system running now?
