I've have done everything I know to do and now I'm at a loss. I have ran everthing in this list in both in regular mode, safe mode, and safe mode with internet connection. Trend Micro Bit Defender Adaware 1.6 Spybot 1.4 Xoftspy 4.22 Norton Systemworks 2004 When there run they find all these trojans and spyware and say they delete them but it all comes back. The three main simptoms are IE popups (Always with a IE window) ironicly with spyware or regestry cleaners. My AutoUpdates always are turned off. (I set to be Automatic but Defaults back to off.) When I check for Updates and try to install them it fails. All software above is up to date with thaeir definitions.

Restoring Windows certificates.

Replaced hosts file with default windows hosts file

Restoring SeDebugPrivilege for Administrators - Succeeded
Please disable Teatimer, it can interfere with the cleaning process:

on the Teatimer icon in the system tray, and "Exit".

Then do this:

How to Disable Teatimer

After we have cleaned your system, please be sure to reverse this process, and re-enable Teatimer.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

O23 - Service: Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (lsass) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe (file missing)

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Now, please go to:

Start –> Run

In the box type in services.msc then hit < Enter > (or click OK)

In the Name column look for:

Local Security Authority Subsystem Service

< Double-click > it.

In the dialogue box that pops up, check in the Path to executable box.

It should say: C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe

That's how to be sure you have the right one.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Close the services.msc window.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread.

You can see if this file is present, and remove it:

C:\WINDOWS\scvhost.exe

WARNING!!!

DO NOT CONFUSE THE ABOVE FILE WITH:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe

That one is a valid and necessary Windows application.

:)
The rouge process was not runing but I disabled in the start up type box.

The pop ups stopped but I still can't do any Windows Update.

Please go to these free online file checkers:

Kaspersky Online File Scanner

Jotti Online File Scanner

VirusTotal Online File Scanner

And submit this file for a virus scan:

C:\WINDOWS\rundll.exe

Let me know the results.

You don't have to try all three.

If one says it's infected, you can stop there.
:)
Found Heuristic/Crypted.RZO (probable variant) POSSIBLY INFECTED/MALWARE (Note: this file was only flagged as malware by heuristic detection(s). This might be a false positive. Therefore, results of this scan will not be stored in the database)
CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

Then click "Fix checked" and close Hijack This!.

Now, please go to:

Start –> Run

In the box type in services.msc then hit < Enter > (or click OK)

In the Name column look for:

rundll.exe

< Double-click > it.

In the dialogue box that pops up, check in the Path to executable box.

It should say: C:\WINDOWS\rundll.exe

That's how to be sure you have the right one.

Now, click Stop to stop that rogue process.

In the Startup type box, change it to Disabled.

Click Apply then OK

Close the services.msc window.

Reboot.

Delete:

C:\WINDOWS\rundll.exe <– file

"Copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread.

:)
Completed steps. Not only did I didn't have to stop the rouge process, I also didn't have to dsbl it. Both were allready done. The last step I had to dsbl the scvhost.exe and didn't find it in the C:\windows folder this file I found and deleted it.

What next?

My Updates are still failing to install. Everything else is fine. Should I run my Spyware software or the online Virus scans again.
I don't get a certain error. I just get the window that says the updates are downloading: 1 of 13 ,2 of 13 etc. Then installing, but then it lists all the updates and that the install was unsucessful. FYI Since you helped me I have had a greater list of updates to download then before. Also when I re-try to do the updates it says they are download already (0kb) and need to be installed.
Just one more thing. First, thank you for all your help, Im going off line now. Have to work tonite. Heres a head scratcher. After the updates failed I remembered one time last week when I closed my computer down. When I got the icons STANDBY, TURN OFF or RESTART I noticed the TURN OFF icon have a Windows Security icon on it. When I turned off the computer it said it was installing the updates. It didn't work with those updates that were software and hardware updates. The updates that I tried today where high priority updates. they still didn't work, but when I turned down my PC I saw they were being installed. When I turned up my PC I went into Control Panel to Add & Remove software and seen all the updates installed. To double check I ran High Priority updates again and it said I didn't need any. It seemed to work for these but not the Custom Updates (Hardware or Software) Chew on this for awhile. Again thankyou.
