uninstalled and re-installed AVG, it seemed to work but this error warning was given after install: Error 0x80040154. Anyone know what that means.

Also ran AdAware and it found trojan downloaders, zango stuff…

Here's a new HJT log:

don't know what the following are: Nwiz, NvCplDAEMON, NvMediaCentre.
task manager shows SIX svchost processes running. normal?
crazywinnings still there;
still getting a 'need to close' error on RAID system on startup,
still can't run Microsoft Office apps ("Windows Installer Service could not be accessed")
Outlook still acting weird, not downloading new email, and flashing some window that I think says "preparing to install".
accessing My Computer still very very slow.
internet browsing slow, and IE behaving oddly (not navigating to pages typed into Address bar, only to those clicked on that open in the SAME window.)
when looking in the system32 folder to delete a dll (as instructed above) i saw OTHER dll's that are worrying, called things like webhits.dll and attivaxx.dll, there are thousands, and a lot of the are blue, which means they are compressed. if they're compressed maybe the anti-softwares can't remove them? I don't know!

This thread is getting a LOT of reads but no replies?? If any of you pro's think this situation is unsalvagable and requires full format and re-install PLEASE TELL ME. I don't want to do that, but I also don't want to struggle with this machine endlessly and potentially lose important work.

Thanks, Anthony
Download WindPFind

Extract WinPFind.zip to your c:\ folder.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then open c:\WinPFind and double-click on WinPFind.exe.
When the program is open, click on the Start Scan button to start scanning your computer. Be patient as this scan may take a while.
When it is done, it will show a log and tell you the scan is completed. Reboot your computer back to normal mode and and post the contents of c:\WinPFind\WinPFind.txt as a reply to this topic.
Hi therock, thanks for the continued help
here's what winpfind reported:

WARNING: not all files found by this scanner are bad. Consult with a knowledgable person before proceeding.

If you see a message in the titlebar saying "Not responding…" you can ignore it. Windows somethimes displays this message due to the high volume of disk I/O. As long as the hard disk light is flashing, the program is still working properly.

Open Internet explorer click tools > options on the toolbar click the secuirty tab click trusted sites click sites and delete *.frame.crazywinnings.com Delete the files. (if present) C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\svhost2.exe Then post a new Hijackthis log here in a reply.
hi therock

Deleted svhost2.exe…. it was a webcam image server or something? i don't have a web cam. found those security tabs myself, and deleted the entry from 'trusted' sites, but it's re-appeared. the restricted sites tab is PACKED with sites i don't recognize at all.

have tried to contact you through the chat room, but it's now being very very slow and seems faulty…not sure if it's working right.

thanks,

Hi sure, *frame.crazywinnings.com is the only one in the trusted sites and i can't get rid of it. in the restricted sites, i've got (just a sampling): downloads.adaware.cc *.africaspromise.org *.agava.ru *.dietpussy.com *.directsearchzone.com *.doggyaction.com (!) *.hotbar.com *.nellyslyrics.com *.niagracapital.com *.online-casino-1.net *.teen-pic-post.com *.tinybar.com *.zoom.megasite etc etc there are almost 300 then there are also almost 30 IP addresses. [removed] [removed] [removed] [removed] Today i've had an svchost process driving my CPU crazy over repeating periods of about 30 seconds - about 20 seconds at 100%, drops to 0 for 2 secs, spikes to about 70% for 4 secs, drops back to 0 for 2 seconds, then goes back to 100 and repeats the pattern. Surely that ain't right! Thanks for your input therock, i'm very interested in what you have to say… i'm 1 step away from formatting everything in desperation.

Ok lets clean up your trusted sites this way…

Open notepad copy and paste the following…

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Domains]

Save it as fix.reg to the desktop as type all files then go to the desktop double click fix.reg and allow it to merge into the registery when asked…
Hi therock

yup, that did the trick! trusted sites are clear… there are still the IP addresses in the restricted sites section, but no more web addresses.

here's a new HJT log

I'm periodically scanning with the various programs, but they're not turning anything up.

i still can't access Microsoft office apps or Outlook, IE still behaving oddly, still getting the Raid service error at startup and that svchost is still rampantly pushing my cpu to 100%… so i don't know if you can help further? or is it time for me to call it quits and format/re-install?
frankly, i get the feeling this computer is fried.

cheers
anthony
Hi the rock. I think the problems were caused by the malware, because they weren't there before i was infected…so even after cleaning the machine, the damage remained. I've formatted and re-installed the machine, and will certainly post in the forum you suggested if the problems continue…so far things look fine. Thanks so much for your help though, i do appreciate it cheers anthony h
