Hello,
I have and always check my computer with Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware and run SpywareBlaster too. S&D and Ad-Aware have not found anything but tracking cookies. I always use CCleaner as well. I had three real time scans catch something with my Internet Security 12 PC cillin. The names are as follows, CRCK_NERO.C, ADW_ZANGO.J, and ADW_WINAD.BB

ADW_ZANGO.J had a quarantine fail, the other two were quarantined with a clean failure.
CRCK_NERO.C did say no virus in the quarantine when I tried to clen it.

I have a had a few browser redirects, but thank God nothing to any nasty sites. My HiJackThis log looks like there is something wrong perhaps, but I do not have clue on how to fix anything if there is something wrong. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and efforts from your excellent site. Here is my log.

Hi Snoopy1966:

Please print, or copy and paste this text into a Notepad file and place it on your desktop, to review as you work. Please proceed with this fix in the order provided below.

I see no sign of those in your HJT logfile. I would advise running a couple of online Virus scanners and Ewido Anti-Malware and see if anything can be found.

Please use the following links to run two, or more of these online Virus Scanners and let them fix whatever they find.

If you are using any of the browsers listed just below, the following online Virus scanning site is compatable.
http://be.trendmicro-europe.com/consumer/h…call_launch.php
If you are using any of these browsers:
Microsoft Internet Explorer
Netscape (6+)
Mozilla (1+)
Firefox (all)
Opera (7.5+)

Internet Explorer users can also use the following links.

When using Trend Micro, be sure and put a check in the box by "Auto Clean" before you do the scan. If it finds anything that it cannot clean have it delete it or make a note of the file location, so you can delete it yourself.
TrendMicro HouseCall
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
http://www.kaspersky.co.uk/news.html?id=146100010
Bitdefender and let it delete everything it finds.
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed.

Please reboot when finished.

Please Note: This is a new version of Ewido Anti-Malware. It has a new set of setup and running instructions. Please delete any other versions.

Download ewido anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
  • Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  1. Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
  2. IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  3. Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  4. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  5. ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  6. Once the scan is complete do the following:
  7. If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  8. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  9. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important). I suggest saving it to your desktop.

  10. Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode

    Next:

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Optional - FLASHGET I note in your log that you have FlashGet the download manager - be aware that the trial copy bundles Cydoor adware, but when you register the Ads disappear. To remove the program: Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove it. Your call.

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Exit Explorer, enable hidden files and reboot.

I see your Sun Java is out of date.
It is important to remove older versions as these are the ones with the holes in them. First, Uninstall all versions of Sun Java, from Add/Remove Programs. Then,
    Download the Newest Version>>>> http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Once installed, it is very important to test and see that it is in fact installed >>>> Use this link. Sun Java Test

Please run Hijack This again. Scan and copy the log, then post it into this topic, along with the Ewido report.

Please advise if any problems remain.

Hello Piatan and thanks for the help.
I ran Bitdefender and had it delete everything. It came up with TROJAN.DROPPER.Delf.TX It said everthing was deleted and my computer was still infected.
I then ran Micro Trend House call. The first time it found a bunch of stuff and cleaned it and said to run the scan again since my computer was infected. The second time nothing was wrong.
I downloaded Ewido Anti-malware and did as you said. It found 13 items. I could not find Flash Get in the Add/Remove programs, so I uninstalled it from the program start menu. In safe mode I used Tune up Shredder to delete the folder and whatever was in it.

This entry I left because I am pretty sure it is a program Call Read and Write Gold 8 for my son to read web pages and pdf books and many other things for him since he some brain damage when he was 4 years old from a very rare disease. He is now 16 and doing good, all praise due to God.
O2 - BHO: txthlpBHO Class - {060235DC-6D84-47BD-95D7-A4EF5099A59D} - C:\PROGRA~1\TEXTHE~1\READAN~1\TE3219~1.DLL

I updated Java, all hidden files shown, fixed everything that you said too even the optional ones in HijackThis. I do not want any junk on my computer. You will see from my Ewido log some junk that I will never do again. Never download crack programs :( That was stupid!

My computer seems to start up faster now. It is strange that SpyBot and Ad-Aware and SpywareBlaster did not show up in my program files. They are all there in my start menu. Should I remove them and install them again? Here are my logs. I hope everything is gone now. Some things still do not look right, but I will leave that to you. Thanks again for your very excellent help and instructions :)

Hi Snoopy1966. You're welcome. :D

It is good to hear that your son is doing well. We would not want to disturb any program that could possibly be used to assist him.

I checked my own Add/Remove Programs and found SpyBot, Ad-Aware and SpywareBlaster. I agree, it is odd that they are not found in your Add/Remove Programs, but are in your startup menu. Are there shortcuts for them, on your desktop ? If so, try clicking on their shortcuts and see if they can check for updates. That should tell you if they are operational. Actually running the program would be another way to check, but it could take a while to run them. Of the three, only SpywareBlaster offers full time protection. The other two are used only to check for and remove Malware.

If you did not actually purchase Ewido, it is a 30 day trial. After 30 days it will not offer full time protection, but still can be used to check for Malware. Ewidos quarantined files can be deleted at any time.

Your Hijack This logfile looks to be clean.
If there are no problems, please be sure to use the link to see TonyKlein's good advice (below). Those Protection programs offered free, are some of the best available.

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if Malware infects a computer with this operating system the Malware can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
Click the "Delete Cookies" button
Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
Go to Tools > Options.
Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.

* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin

Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Press OK to remove them.

Also, see TonyKlein's good advice and highly recommended FREE PROTECTION PROGRAMS. A must for all PC users.

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Safe surfing. :wavey:
Hello again Piatan, I am glad to see everything is OK now. I will follow the rest of the steps to clear system restore points, and temp files and the like. SpyBot, Ad-Aware, and SpywareBlaster are all in my Add/Remove programs. Sorry for the confusion there. Flash Get was not in there. I run Ad-Aware and SpyBot almost daily and keep them up to date. My desktop shortcuts work as I use them also. I always run SpywareBlaster in the background and keep it up to date as well. Thanks again for the help. Hopefully everythting will be OK after the System restore points are removed. I will do some scans after that to make sure. I will post back either way if that is OK.

Sure, just post back here if there are any problems.
This topic will remain open for about another 20 days, before it is automatically warehoused.
Hello Piatan,

Bitdefender did not find anything. Trend Micro had some Grayware, I tried it twice and my computer froze both times trying to clean them. IE gave me the Not Responding. One was tracking cookies and the other said Ad-Aware 2020. Here is another log to look over to see if anything is wrong just to make sure. Thanks for your help.

Also can I remove this from the log? I removed Daemon tools because it messed up my drive letter for my external hard drive and made all my torrent files say they were missing even after I tried to redirect them to the new drive letter it gave it.

Hi Snoopy1966:

Tracking cookies are common and more are added whenever you go online. They are normally no threat whatever. That other one, "Ad-Aware 2020", is odd.
Could it possibly be search 2020, that is adware ?
Lets run Ad-Aware SE and see if that is found.

Please install, update, then configure Ad-Aware SE to the following directions. If you already have Ad-Aware SE, be sure to first update it , configure it to do a full systems scan, then run it and let it remove anything it asks about.
Install and how to use Ad-aware SE
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind…showtutorial=48

After using Ad-Aware SE, please reboot to allow it to finish.

Your Hijack This log looks clean.

I would think you should be able to remove the startup entry you asked about, since Daemon has already been removed.

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Close all windows and browsers, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check beside each of these entries listed below, if still present.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NvCplDaemon] RUNDLL32.EXE C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll,NvStartup

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Let me know how things go. :D
Hello Piatan, Ad-Aware found nothing at all, and the entry was removed from HijackThis. I will be doing more computer surfing tonight, and I will see how things behave. I have a lot of catching up to do at the site I Mod at. The computer seems to reboot much faster now. Ewido is kinda nice, it might be worth the $30 for the program. Should I only use one of the two between Ewido and SpywareBlaster? Thanks again for the help here at TC. You guys do an awesome job. Thanks , Snoopy :wavey:
Hi Snoopy1966. You're welcome. :D My opinion ? I use only those free programs recommended at Tony Kleins link, that was provided earlier and Win Patrol, which is also free. They have served me well for a long time. I would remove Ewido and use it only if/when needed. Safe surfing. :wavey:
