Dunno where it came from, but there it is. I had several problems, including a Trojan ZLob, RegPerf, and CBXWVSS that I finally got cleaned. The :rant2: Adware.Virtumonde won't die. I've run: CWShredder AdAware Norton Antivirus OiUninstaller SpyBot 1.4 VundoFix Ewido It keeps coming back. Currently the file Ewido keeps finding (I had to tell the real time scanner to ignore it) a file in the System32 folder called JKKJG.DLL. I suspect that's why there was "no action taken". Follows are scan reports and a HijackThis log: Thanks! "Virtumundo" isn't showing in your log.

You can't kill it.. I can't see it…

Please do this:

Rename this file (HijackThis!):

C:\Program Files\HiJackThis\HijackThis.exe

To:

C:\Program Files\HiJackThis\icu.exe

Reboot.

Run it and post a new log file, into this thread.

You must have the new variant that hides from HijackThis!

This process will make it reveal itself so we can see what we're dealing with.

Please turn Wordwrap OFF in Notepad before making another log file.

:)
Micah_6:8 Thanks for the tip. Whatever I've gotten, it seems to be a slippery booger - - I didn't see it either. I'm currently away from my main computer, and won't be able to post the updated log file until Friday night - late. Whatever it is, nothing seems to detect it yet. Has anyone figured a way to unleash a ping of death on the URL's embedded in these boogers?? I have several machines that do nothing most of the time, and instead of searching for SETI, I'd love to exact some revenge on the D*ckheads that write these malware programs. :rant2: I realize that revenge is not politically correct - - feel free to respond outside this thread with hints to my reference mailbox. Angry Merlin  Sorry 'bout the word wrap - - will turn it off.
I'm not sure, but I believe the creeps responsible for "Vundo" are in Russia…. Who needs the "ping of death"? You're a Wizard… Cast a spell on them…. ;) I'll be looking for your next log. B)
Righteo - - - I cast "Magic Missile" upon the creeps. Hope it gets them. In the meantime, here's the updated Logfile after renaming HijackThis to ICU Wordwrap - Off. Sorry - - forgot to tell you - - I'd already tried the VundoFix thing. Initially it found stuff, but currently it does NOT detect the jkkjg.dll, and won't remove it. Follows is the VundoFix log file (includes all runs done, previously and this AM). I ran HijackThis - - jkkjg is still listed as a BHO and is in the WinLogon Notify section of the registry. It still shows up in Safe mode, and I can't delete it. If I boot to Win98, navigate to the System32 directory in an attempt to delete it, the file jkkjg.dll is NOT there, which leads me to suspect that something is dropping it in there, and can remove/hide it at will. Let's give this method a try.

If it doesn't work, I have another "spell I can cast"…. ;)

Please print these instructions out for use in Safe Mode.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop

from the link below:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/VundoFix.exe
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
  • This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
  • After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
  • Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat
  • You will first be presented with a warning.

    It should look like this

    VundoFix V2.15 by Atri

By using VundoFix you agree that you are doing so at your own risk

    Press enter to continue….

  • At this point press enter one time.
  • Next you will see:

Please Type in the filepath as instructed by the forum staff and then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):
    • C:\WINDOWS\System32\jkkjg.dll
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • Next you will see:

Please type in the second filepath as instructed by the forum staff then press enter:

  • At this point please type the following file path (make sure to enter it exactly as below!):C:\WINDOWS\System32\gjkkj.*
  • Press Enter to continue with the fix.
  • The fix will run then HijackThis will open, if it does not open automatically please open it manually.
  • In HiJackThis, please place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {014D9BE1-64D6-4194-89B3-78ECCC4A3107} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\jkkjg.dll

    O20 - Winlogon Notify: jkkjg - C:\WINDOWS\System32\jkkjg.dll
  • After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.
  • Press enter to exit the program then manually reboot your computer.
  • Once your machine reboots please continue with the instructions below.
Post a new HijackThis! log.
:)
Downloaded VundoFix. It wasn't at the posted link - - I had to navigate to:

http://www.atribune.org/content/view/24/1/

to see the download, then it linked to:

http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

which started the download.

The VundoFix file I received simply RUNS VundoFix. There wasn't any file extraction, and there was no KillVundo batch file created or included. I went back to the Atribune website and did a search for KillVundo - - didn't find anything.

If you have a listing of the KillVundo.BAT file, (I assume it passes command line parameters to VundoFix), I'll recreate it locally and try running it in Safe Mode.

When I tried to run VundoFix as a "task", the vundofix window simply closed and never reopened.

Thanks

Merlin
We'll just do it "the 'long' way".

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

l2mfix.exe (© Shadowwar)

l2mfix.exe (© Shadowwar)

Save the file to your desktop and l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing .

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log.

Copy/paste the contents of that log into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder!

Please include a new HijackThis! log as well.
Well - - I think it may be gone. Here's what I did. I looked at the L2MFIX process - it was pretty scary looking - could chop up ones registry file pretty bad - so I decided to give VundoFix one last try. I went back to Safe mode and ran VundoFix. Since the scan didn't detect anything, yet the jkkjg.dll was still there, AND EWIDO still detected that file as Vundo, I was just goofing around and right clicked on the VundoFix file window: it asked me if there was anything else I wanted to add. I hand entered the c:\win\sys32\jkkjg.dll file and clicked "Delete Vundo". Perhaps this method replaced the KillVundo.Bat process?? VundoFix blinked - then said "Reboot", which I did. When it restarted, the jkkjg.dll file was gone, and there didn't seem to be any NEW nonsense character dll files in the system32 directory. Then I looked for anything named gjkkj, and found an INI file - about 2K in size yet only one line of data. I looked inside with a hex editor - only a single line of all garbage characters (hex only) - NOT your standard INI file (there was no text at all in there), so I deleted that file with windows explorer (DEL), which seemed to work. Then I reran a complete EWIDO scan - it only found Virtumondo in the restore folders. I deleted that restore folder. It also found PurityScan as a registry key: HLKM\software\Clickspring (I deleted the key). Did a little looking around - I did find another garbage containing, garbage named, ini file called tzapxxc.ini, however it was created over a year ago (3/8/2005), and there was no corresponding zapxxct.dll - - so it may just be a remnant of an older, successfully deleted, vundo attack? I'll put that into a "Garbage" subdirectory, and if nothing dies on reboot, I'll send it to the recycle bin. I turned Restore off, then back on, and rebooted. No junk seen. Follows is the Hijack this log just run. Looks pretty clean? Let me know what you think. I read back through the read me file and looked at the L2Mfix BAT file. Looks like level 1 doesn't modify anything - just looks for trouble spots. Here's the L2MFix scan log. It's pretty huge.
