We have recently begun having problems with unwanted popups throughout our computer usage. I've run spybot and removed all red entries (I've been using it for years), have spyware blaster running, and Mcafee suite in full usage. I followed the "self Help" instructions fully and removed everything ewido directed us toward. Any way to get rid of these annoying popups? Please find the HijackThis log below…. thanks in advance.

Run ATF cleaner

Rescan with HJT and post a new log here.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment

I ran ATF cleaner and rebooted. Then ran the below updated HJT logfile.

As to how the computer is behaving… we are seeing a great deal of slowdown over the past 3-5 days. This may be related to the fact that I've been using spywareblaster, spybot, and adaware with Norton for years and this past week the subscription ran out and we switched to the trial version of McAfee. ALSO and more disturbing we are getting popups very frequently despite the Explorer SP2 update (this just began the last few days).

Norton May not have been completely removed. Please look here. For instructions to remove it completely.

Removing Norton seems to have worked as far as I can tell, however the system is still behaving slowly with an occasional popup. thanks for your help, Jeff

I'm getting a BHO message on Windows Defender as well regarding C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstr.dll. Each time I take action on this it comes back at startup could you let me know what I need to do about it. Thanks.

Download VundoFix.exe to your desktop. http://www.atribune.org/ccount/click.php?id=4

* After the files are extracted, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode then hit enter.
* Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
* Click the Scan for Vundo button.
* Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
* You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
* Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
* When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.

I'm getting a BHO message on Windows Defender as well regarding C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtstr.dll. Each time I take action on this it comes back at startup could you let me know what I need to do about it. Thanks.

Are you still getting a BHO message from windows defender?

After running Win Defender once again (full sys scan) I'm receiving a nothing. However, I'm still receiving the occassional pop up.

So how did I get infected in the first place?

Might try google toolbar of you settings in IE to stop the popups.
