Hijack this log... not sure if anything is wrong...

I have recently been getting a pop up from ZoneAlarm asking me about net.exe and net1.exe. I know how net.exe could be used, but I also know how viruses can be sneaky and hide in files that look important. I've noticed that my internet connection acts slow sometimes, and my system can come to a crawl at points as well. I know something is wrong with it, but can't pinpoint it… hopefully this will help.

On the whole, I can point at what most of the stuff that is show on the HijackThis report is, the ones I don't know about are the ones I have colored. If someone could look at this and see if I got something going on that shouldn't be, I'd be very appreciative.

Hello and welcome to TomCoyote. Sorry for the wait, there are just more logs than the few volunteers can get to. I see the item and I can't identify it from here. Have you looked at the properties to see if that tells you anything? Here is the Google on it:
http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navc…:en&q=net%2Eexe Please use one or more of these free online scans to identify it and share the information with me.
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

http://www.virustotal.com/flash/index_en.html

this is a dead line and you can use HJT to remove it:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Ptipbmf] rundll32.exe ptipbmf.dll,SetWriteCacheMode
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PtiuPbmd] Rundll32.exe ptipbm.dll,SetWriteBack
CastleCops says this: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-3140.html
http://castlecops.com/s3138-PtiuPbmd.html
If that information applies to you, I would leave those alone…your call

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-9038.html

This one: O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE see this: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-4034.html

O16 - DPF: {6414512B-B978-451D-A0D8-FCFDF33E833C} (WUWebControl Class) - http://update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/…b?1130467659252
This item has to do with windows updates?? You can remove it but it will be put back the next time you download critical updates.

So…if the C:\WINDOWS\system32\net.exe is not bad then you have no malware in the HJT log. You can do what you wish with the rest. If you need more help, post again with a new HJT log.

Thanks…pskelley

Thanks for the help. I used a few of the virus scans and they all showed up being OK. I guess I'll just let the programs run and see what happens next time.
