I would say I am an intermediate computer user. Usually I can figure things out.. or so I think… haha

Lately I have been having a lot of trouble with pages loading very slow, especially on Ebay. Its starting to get pretty frustrating.. I have deleted cookies, ran ad-aware, ran spybot s&d, scanned with Norton, even posted to the boards on Ebay (they are USELESS).. still nothing helps. I started doing a bit if research and came across the hijackthis. I am afraid I dont know what should be there and what shouldnt in my logs, so hoping someone can help give me a clue.. : )

Here is my log file:

Hi aka kaeli, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. I see a parasite that should not be there. I would like to use a free scan to take a good look and also a nice utility to clean you up good. If all of this sounds ok to you, then please proceed like this:

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

2) Ewido trojan scanner: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.

  7. 3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {D714A94F-123A-45CC-8F03-040BCAF82AD6} - C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe02a.dll

    O9 - Extra button: SideStep - {3E230861-5C87-11D3-A1C6-00105A1B41B8} - C:\WINNT\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe02a.dll

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log along with the Ewido scan log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

You did mention Ad-aware and Spybot, both great free programs have recently upgraded to new versions. This link will help you make sure you have the newest version and that you are properly configured. Don't forget to update: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php

    Thanks…pskelley

So let me know how you think things are looking.. I must say it was very easy to follow your instruction, I really appreciate it!

Kaeli
Hello Kaeli, I will look at your HJT log in a minute, let's consider the Ewido scan first. I know the log looks a little strange but if you will look you will see mostly all tracking cookies and you can see where they are at also:
C:\Documents and Settings\Kaelish Hudson\Cookies\kaelish hudson@com[2].txt -> Spyware.Tracking-Cookie
I believe Ad-aware and Spybot updated like in the link I gave you above will keep these cookies cleaned for you, but take a look in your Documents and Setting folder to make sure of this. Here are tutorials for those two programs if it helps. Make sure you configure them as suggested:
Spybot

Ad-aware

There were a couple of items Ewido cleaned in the beginning of the scan and one of those was the Sidestep DPF (Downloaded Program Files) that we also removed with HJT. Let's have a look at the HJT log now.

Your log is clean :) I see nothing in the log that should be causing you any issues with ebay. Let me give you this information, here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html

Now ebay: I see no reason why you should be having any issues with ebay. I do see two DPF's this one:
O16 - DPF: {4C39376E-FA9D-4349-BACC-D305C1750EF3} (EPUImageControl Class) - http://tools.ebayimg.com/eps/wl/activex/EP…l_v1-0-3-24.cab and this one
O16 - DPF: {E855A2D4-987E-4F3B-A51C-64D10A7E2479} (EPSImageControl Class) - http://tools.ebayimg.com/eps/activex/EPSControl_v1-0-3-0.cab Let me first say I know nothing about ebay, but if they are the only ones you are having issues with, I will suggest it is their website and not your computer. You might use HJT to remove these two DPF's, then the next time you go to ebay to do whatever those programs were there for, you will be prompted to download the ActiveX control again. Perhaps a fresh download of the DPF .cab file may help?

I also suggest a good maintenance of your computer but while that will help your computer it won't help ebay if your computer is running well at other sites. Here is some information that may help
http://web.ukonline.co.uk/cook/maintain.htm

There are also standard suggestions, like a faster computer or Operating system, how much RAM do you have, can you add more, etc.

You may find a place to ask a question in some of this information:

Hope this information help…Phil

Thanks…pskelley
