umm yea, i have programs on my computer that like to delete themselves on a regular basis, to the point i have to reinstall them after a couple days... and i had a virus protector and it didnt catch the virus now im using the crappy aol safety and security center, and i think all thats doing is lagging my computer, could someone please help me?

Hello Mike and welcome to TomCoyote forum. I merged the two topics you started, please stick with the first using add reply, do not start a new topic. If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, please do this:

1) You are running HJT.exe fro a TEMP folder, this is not safe as we will have no backups if needed. I prefer you move it here: C:\HJT\HijackThis.exe. If you need more instructions use these: http://russelltexas....tehjtfolder.htm

2) You are running C:\Program Files\Spyware Cleaner\SpywareCleaner.Exe which is considered a rouge spyware program, see this: http://www.spywarewa...nti-spyware.htm Please us Start > Control Panel > Add Remove programs to uninstall Spyware Cleaner and any other program you know does not belong there. If you are unsure about any, let me know and I will look.

3) I need more information, the symptoms you describe:

I have never heard off. Give me as much detail as possible, and then post a new HJT reflecting the above changes and I will take a look as soon as possible after you post. I am also interested in any error messages you are receiving "word for word".

Thank you for the help, i moved the HJT to the folder that you suggested. As for the Spyware program, i checked and it wasnt on the list for the add/remove programs, so im not exactly sure as to what i should do. oh, and by that one post i put up, i use limewire to download music, and on a daily occurance, i have to reinstall it. i never had this problem before and my aunt told me that i had a virus, she also got help from this site so i thought i would check it out. at this time im using the aol safety and security center because it was free, is there any good virus protectors that i could find, that were free? thanks for all the help you can give me.

What I suggest you do is remove it as I suggested. I will provide free programs that will do the job for you with none of the above issues.

Limewire (The most current version of Limewire is reported to include spyware. LimeWire 4.9.28 is clean. Older and newer version may not be.)

3) The one drawback to free antivirus programs is that there is no tech support. I have always found the tech support at all av sites practically non existant anyway. I always suggest AVG by Grisoft when a free one is needed, and installed in on my sisters new Dell. I will supply a link to peer to peer help with the AVG download link. If you use it, make sure to stay with the "free", don't get sidetracked with offers of trials, etc. Here are two good free antivirus programs:

i appreciate your help with this, i really do, it saves me from resorting to my other alternative which was completely reformating my harddrive and having to start all over from scratch. i tried deleting that program like u said, but i dont know if it is really gone. i also found that i had a trojan horse downloader which i believe was removed as well, i did another hijackthis log, which im going to post underneath this, all help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks Mike, for your feedback and the new log. Since I don't see any really nasty malware, let's do this, and see how you are running at that point:

1) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

2) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

ok, i believe i did what you asked. so far the computer is running alot faster then what it used to do, which is great... i deleted those programs u said to delete, but i couldnt find the c:\program file\ spywarecleaner.. its not showing up on the list. i thought i got rid of it before, but if you still find it, then apparently i didnt do a good enough job. how would i find it? i also rebooted the computer and ran the hijackthis again, here is the log.
