Hi there,
I'm having a problem that seems to be pretty common. I'm getting pop up windows telling me that my registry may be infected, etc and that i need to download certain programs and even if i close the window a page advertising what appears to be a false anti-malware program pops up. The two pages it goes to are Sysprotect and Amaena. I'm also getting popup ads for AdultFriendFinder, Party Poker, etc. This all started about a week ago. I've run Symantec, AdAware, Spybot, AND Windows Defender (that new beta version) to no avail. After reading some of this website I downloaded hijack this and have pasted my log into this post. Please please help me! I'm really hoping there's something else I can do to make this stop!

Hello krystal937, Welcome to the forum.

This is what I suggest you do.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system. If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so immediately. This is a necessary step to kill the infection!

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HJT log as well as the Resullts from Spy Sweeper file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

The forum is run by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

Oh wow thanks so much. My computer is already running faster. I did the spysweeper scan for the first time two days ago and I wanted to wait to reply till I got a better idea of whether I was still having problems and so far so good! So I guess as far as "computer behavior" it seems to be all better. no more popups, no more fake protection programs telling me i need to download them.

I'm posting both my spysweeper and hijack this logs in this message. Looking forward to hearing what i need to do to keep things running smoothly like they are right now.

Here's the spysweeper log. It starts with the scan I did today and has the first one underneath:

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

You need To disable SpySweeper:it can stop our fix.

Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck 'automaticly restore default without notifiction".

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
MyWaySA

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

Be sure to keep SunJava, updated

In Add/Remove programs click on these and press *remove* if listed:
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 - 97.99Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2 - 143.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 4 - 144.00Mb
J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 5- 151.00Mb
Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_04 - 130.00Mb
Or any other outdated J2SE

It is important to remove older versions as these are the ones with the holes in them. You will be surprised when you go to add/remove to see all of the versions sitting there.

Download Newest >>>> http://www.java.com/...nload/index.jsp

Okay I followed the instructions and the computer seems to be operating fine, maybe a teensy bit slowly. Some issues with the instructions that came up:

"You need To disable SpySweeper:it can stop our fix.
Open it click >Options over to the left then >program options >Uncheck "load at windows startup".
Over to the left click "shields" and uncheck all there.
Uncheck "home page shield".
Uncheck 'automaticly restore default without notifiction"."

I had to go into the specific menus of all the shields to uncheck them all. I hope that is right. Also I couldn't find a box with "automatically restore default without notification." But I did everything else.

In the HijackThis log, there were several things to check that didn't show up in my HijackThis log. Perhaps they were eliminated at some step in the fixing so far? They were:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://bfc.myway.com...de_srchlft.html

R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {4D25F926-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4D25F921-B9FE-4682-BF72-8AB8210D6D75} - C:\Program Files\MyWaySA\SrchAsDe\1.bin\deSrcAs.dll

Other than that, everything went according to plan. I switched to the newest java version also.
Here's the new Hijack This log after I updated my java program (i also saved the one immediately after the ATF cleaner step you instructed me to do if you need to see that one instead):

Good Job

use Add/Remove Programs and remove Spy Sweeper unless you want to keep it. It's only a 14 day trial version.

Log looks good :D  How is it running any issues?

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
