Thank you in advance for taking a look at this log file. This machine has plenty of problems (my daughters machine actually), currently has no internet access - S&D & AD-Aware detected lots of problems (removed some of them but not all, lots of popups (including one that is overly persistant - it has 'duf' in the title bar). and of course, the machine is running extremely slow.

I've run S&D, Ad-Aware & AVG against it with little success. It seems that every time I run one of these programs, the number of infected files increases. Anyway, here is my log file hopefully you can help me out, I'm in way over my head with this.

Thanks again,

Mike

Welcome to the Tom Coyote Forum, sorry about the delay but we are overwhelmed with logs.

You have got quite a mess going on , you have bunch of Trojans and a Look2me infection.

You have two Anti Virus programs running, with AV MORE IS NOT BETTER so I suggest you uninstall the free version of AVG Free.

Lets do this ….you may want to print this out as we will be disconnecting from the internet for part of the fix.

* Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
* Scroll down to Cvasvr
* Double Click that service to open it.
* Click on Stop Service.
* Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
* OK your way out of the program.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.

Close all windows before continuing.
Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
Put a check next to Run this program as a task.

You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button, your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button.

You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK.
When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK.
Your computer will then shutdown.

Turn your computer back on.
Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339' please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your C:\Windows\System32 Directory.
http://www.ascentive.com/support/new/images/lib/MSWINSCK.OCX

SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS

* Click on MY COMPUTER
* Then on your C: Drive
* Then to TOOLS/ FOLDER OPTIONS/ VIEW
* Choose the radio button to SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
* Take the checkmark out of HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES
* Then APPLY/ OK

* Don't forget to reverse this once your computer is clean

Download and install Ewido Anti-Malware
Ewido Anti-Malware
* Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop for it to double-click.
o Click on update
o You should see Update Complete when done.
o Now close out the program <– Dont run it yet

Now reboot into Safemode
To Enter SAFEMODE

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly, this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

Now open Ewido
o Click on scanner.
o Run a full system scan
o Let the program scan the machine.
o While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK.
o When Prompted - Select Perform action on all infections.
o Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report.
o Click Save report.
o Save the report to your desktop.

While in Safemode, Open HJT Scan Only, the only window you should have open is HJT, put a checkmark in he following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Post back with the log from the L2M fix, the Ewido report and a new HJT log. Be sure to save the reports from all the scans, it is very important that I see them.

Hi Ken,

Thanks for your help with this. I know it's a mess, but with any luck maybe it won't be to bad. Anyway, I should first mention that I ran ewido inbetween my original post and your response. Nothing quite like the rathe of a 14-year-old girl with no internet access :lol: . As far as your instructions, I did not find the Cvasvr service, but everything else went without a hitch. The following is the .txt files from the L2M HJT & ewido:

The CCleaner came up with a bunch of issues. Since this has a restore option, is it ok just to let the software fix everything? Not sure how to make sense of all of these things?

Thanks again for your help,

Mike
Hello Mike :D

You did very well :thumbup: but we still have a few issues that are bad that have to be taken care of.

This bad service is still running Service Cvasvr (Service Cvas)
and is considered a back door Trojan, you can read about it here.
http://castlecops.com/o23list-1340.html

Download this tool from Mcafee and run it and lets see if it gets rid of it.
http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

After you run Stinger Its very important that you download this tool LSPfix to your desktop before you proceed with anything else. The reason being is that you have new dot net installed and not always , but sometimes in interferes with your internet connection nice folks aren't they ??
LSP-Fix Download Link

I suggest you remove NewDotNet unless you deliberately installed it. It is extremely dubious and commercially sponsored:
Although Newdotnet does not claim to be spyware, it has been associated with computer instability in certain situations. Both SaveNow and NewDotNet have been linked for computer instability according to the MS Knowledge Base Article 302463.

To remove New.net. please go to Add/Remove Programs via Control Panel, look for and remove New.Net.

If you can not connect to the Internet after removing New.net, please run the LSP-Fix program I had you download earlier, and click on the finish button. Reboot and you should be able to get back on.

Now Open HJT Scan Only, make sure your browser and all windows are closed except for HJT and fix these entries.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [New.net Startup] rundll32 C:\PROGRA~1\NEWDOT~1\NEWDOT~2.DLL,ClientStartup -s
O23 - Service: Service Cvasvr (Service Cvas) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\csvas.exe (file missing)

Post back with a new HJT log and lets see what we have accomplished.

Ken :D
Ken,

Ran Stinger as suggested. It ran normal - didn't seem to find anything wrong. Also, I was not able to locate the New.Net in the add/remove program listing. Logs as follows:

Thanks for your help Ken,

Mike
Hello Mike,

That bad service is still running, take another look and make sure that you didnt miss it.

It could be listed either way Service Cvasvr or just Cvasvr
* Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
* Scroll down to Service Cvasvr or Cvasvr
* Double Click that service to open it.
* Click on Stop Service.
* Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
* OK your way out of the program.

If you still could not find it, or you did find it and disabled it, do this

Open HJT > Misc Tools > Delete an NT Service
* Type in Service Cvas
* Then click on OK, it will ask you to reboot, do so.

Then reboot into Safemode and remove these two entries with HJT.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [loadadv64] C:\WINDOWS\System32\loadadv64
O23 - Service: Service Cvasvr (Service Cvas) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\csvas.exe (file missing)

While still in Safemode, lets do a search and make sure these are gone, delete them if present.
Make sure that windows is still enabled to show all files and folders.

C:\WINDOWS\csvas.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dguiext.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dmmv2clt.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fpls0337e.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\loadadv64
C:\WINDOWS\system32\m8ju0i19e8.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\miimg32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\njtlogon.dll

Reboot normally and post a new log please.

Ken :D
You were right Ken, I missed it. Sorry about that. Here is the new log file:

Mike,

One more to go and the rest of your log looks good :thumbup:

You need to remove this file in Safemode.

In Safemode, open HJT Scan Only and remove this entry

O18 - Filter: text/html - {BA576CDE-9949-4473-A8F7-6C17C2A7E600} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\wdc1n.dll

While still in Safemode, look for and delete this file
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wdc1n.dll

Reboot normally and post a new HJT log for one final check.

Mike, are you getting tired of me yet?? :D
Nah Ken, not tired of you at all. I just glad you stuck this out with me for the day. I'm sure you had better things to do. Below is the latest HJT log file. However, I think I may still have some issues. For kicks, I ran ad-aware again, and came up with two bad guys win32.trojan.dnschanger & VX2.

Mike,

Your HJT log is perfectly clean, I see no evidence of the 2 bad programs that you said Ad-Aware found. It may have just found leftover entries.

Run Ad-Aware again and save the log and let me look at it.

You can also download the trial of Spysweeper , it s pretty good and finding things that may be hidden.

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Scroll to the bottom of the page and be sure to download and install the Free 4.5 Trial and not t the free online scan.

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive
alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C.
Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.

When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Restart your computer, and then please copy and paste the SpySweeper log into this thread.

You can also install Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4 via the links in my signature. Here are the setup instructions. Its important that whatever scans you run to reboot before you run different program.

* Install Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4

* If you have the older version 1.3, remove it via ADD-REMOVE PROGRAMS.

Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL/ PERFORMANCE AND MAINTAINENCE/ ADD-REMOVE
PROGRAMS
scroll to that program and click on REMOVE.

* During Installation, just follow all the defaults.
* Go to MODE and click on ADVANCED MODE.
* Then to SETTINGS / IGNORE PRODUCTS and put a checkmark in DSO EXPLOITS.
* Then to SETTINGS / FILE SETS and take the checkmark out ofUSAGE TRACKS.
* Then to TOOLS/ HOSTS FILE and then on the top click on ADD SPYBOT S & D HOSTS FILES.
* Then to TOOLS/ IE TWEAKS and put a checkmark in LOCK THE HOSTS FILES
* Then check for UPDATES.
* Then to Immunize. then up at the top by the GREEN SIGN, click on IMMUNIZE.
* Then go to the top to SPYBOT and run a FULL SYSTEM SCAN.
* Then to FIX PROBLEMS and fix all it finds.

Then RE-BOOT your computer.

Post back with the Ad-Aware report, the Spysweeper report

Ken :D
Alright Ken, I'm close to comfortable…. The ad-aware came up clean (if you have any juice at lavasoft, tell them they should make the green check much much larger) :D I think the last remaining issue is with S&D - it's reporting a "Command Service" error that I can't get rid of. There are 3 registry entries that won't delete.
Mike,

Your system seems to be ok :thumbup: and although I am capable of removing most of the garbage that is showing up nowadays, I am not a Spybot Search and Destroy expert, but you can jump over here at Castlecops and they have a Spybot forum, like Tom Coyote its free but you need to sign up. They have people right from Safer Networking who know alot more about this great program than I do.

http://castlecops.com/f143-Spybot_S_D.html

Another forum for Spybot
http://forums.spybot.info/

Heres some tips and free tools to help keep you more secure.

* Download and Install CCleaner,
* Click on RUN TOOL
* This program is safe to run, but it will delete your cookies, so if there are any you want to keep,
* Go to Options> Cookies and move any you want to keep from the left window to the right window.

* When you run the Issues Scan before you click on Remove Selected Issues, it will ask you to backup the registry, Say Yes.

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Prefetch and remove all the contents of the Prefetch Folder.
But not the Prefetch folder itself.

* Open INTERNET EXPLORER
* Click on the TOOLS MENU
* Then INTERNET OPTIONS
* At the GENERAL TAB (which should be the first tab you are currently on),
* click on the DELETE FILES BUTTON and put a checkmark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT.
* Then press the OK BUTTON . This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes.
* When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Now Empty your Recycle Bin

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* ClickProperties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You need to be in Category View to access this feature.
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember

* Make sure that your ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE is up to date and run a full scan at least once aweek.

* Here are Free Anti-Virus Programs if you need one

AVG Free Edition
AntVir Personal Edition

* Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

* Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

* Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.

* Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

* Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and
give you the option to deny the change.

* IE- Spyad IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains
in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed,
although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

* Firefox Browser
It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use
them both. When it asks you if you want it to be your default browser, say NO and take the checkmark out of the box to ask you again. After you use this
for awhile, you will want to make it your default.

* Thunderbird Mail There companion mail program was highly favored in PCWorld Magazine,
this has a good spam filter and is more secure than Outlook Express.

* Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't
access the internet without it.

* WINDOWS UPDATES - Enable Automatic Updates
Right click on MY COMPUTER/Click on PROPERTIES/ AUTOMATIC UPDATES and put a mark in the radio button
DOWNLOAD UPDATES FOR ME BUT LET ME CHOOSE WHEN TO INSTALL THEM.

* Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL> PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE> REARRANGE ITEMS ON YOUR HARD DISK TO MAKE PROGRAMS RUN FASTER
This is the Windows Disk Defragger, run this maybe once or twice a month to keep your system running good. The first time you run it, it may take awhile.
