hi i have looked and checked everything i can. did searches and even updated my bios and made sure all my drivers are as uptodate as i possibly can. but i still have a problem. when i power on my pc it will start with a normal boot up. i see the vid card checked and then the hard drives checking and then it goes to black screen as it normaly would when booting windows before the boot up screen shows. and that is where it sits doing nothing no matter how long i let it sit. eventualy i have to use the reset button and make it reboot. usualy it will then load windows. but when it does half the time my dvd-rw drive does not open and isnt found. i dont have record now as the software to burn cd's and dvd's so cant update the drives for the dvd drive wich is a HP dvd300I. not even sure if that is the problem or if it might be a sysmptom of the problem. any help will be aprecated thanks in advance for any help. DragonRidr :)
do you have another CD drive in your system? I'd try unplugging the problematic drive and see if the problem doesn't disappear with it. If it does disappear, at least you have it pegged down. I often have things that are "red herrings" that I am frustrated by, and it turns out not to be the source of the problem at all.
thanks for the info i will try the avast and see what it finds though have ran mumerous virus scans and never found anything so far but not a boot scan so will try that. also the site for the hp driver updates i have been to already that is how i know i cant upgrade the drive as i dont have the disk with the record now software that came with it. and it uses that software to do the updates. but thanks for the link :) i had another cd in the system and have it unpluged as it didnt work right so dont think it is that but might dbl check it to be sure i have it totaly disconected though i think might only be power plug still connected and not data cable. thanks for the suggestion as you are right some times it is something simple. even thought it might be the usb printer but that dont seam to matter ither. one question though why down load avast in safe mode ?? again thanks for the time and the suggestions DragonRidr :)
well i got avast and got it down loaded but had to down load it in windows normaly. then finaly got into safe mode and installed it and had it do a scan on boot. it only found 3 files in the system restore folder that had a trojan and it was win32. other wise it didnt find anything else i will have to check to see if it finds anything on the next boot up and see how the pc does after this. will let you know if it fixed the problem. thanks for the help
epheme i have to say i should have listened better and dbl checked as i had the data cable still plugged into the cdrom drive and once i put a new one in the pc now boots up with np at all. thank you for your help and sorry i didnt use it better. thanks DragonRidr
