Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1 Scan saved at 9:32:57 PM, on 2/3/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP1 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) Not really a problem, more of an annoyance. I am prompted to press F1 at startup because 'Drive O on the primary EIDE controller is operating outside normal specifications.' Sounds scary, will I crash if I keep ignoring these dire warnings? How do I get rid of this?
Your problem can be Hardware related. Check that your IDE ribbon is not damaged and is correctly/fully plugged into the hard drive. Swop out the cable and use a new one…. they're cheap. This error could also be indicating a pending Hard Drive failure. It would sure be a good idea to start backing up your data and important information. It could be that the IDE Channel that this Hard Drive is on (Primary or Secondary) is not functioning correctly. Consider consider switching the Hard Drive and IDE ribbon cable to the Secondary Channel Consider buying a new Hard Drive. Though the Error itself suggests that the Drive itself is failing, you could go through the Windows level check points in Control Panel - Hardware - Device Manager to see if there are any yellow or red warnings. If you do find such warnings in your device manager, then "remove" the device driver and reboot your computer, thereby allowing Windows to "find new hardware" and "install driver for new hardware". Post back with your progress or additional questions. Best Regards
