Last night after downloading a game, it asked me to reboot and then it just came back up with the wallpaper showing and nothing else. No icons will appears and I don't know what to do with it. Please tell me there is a way to restore everything… Eagerly awaiting your response. Thanks in advance for your expertise opinion.
Hi lacrobe,

I'm no expert, but what I'm going to suggest will PROBABLY solve your problem if this is merely an Install gone wrong. If it's something more sinister, you will need the experts who work on this forum to set it right.

I would suggest rebooting your computer in SAFE MODE (tap F8 as soon as the bootup process starts, and tap it several times). You should get a screen asking what startup mode you want, choose SAFE MODE.

The screen will look different- don't worry about that, it's normal in Safe Mode. When you get booted up, go to the START button, choose PROGRAMS; then choose ACCESSORIES. In that menu, select SYSTEM TOOLS, and in the menu that displays you choose SYSTEM RESTORE.

Restore the system to the last available date BEFORE you installed the rogue program, and the computer will reboot when it finishes the RESTORE process. IF everything has gone as it should, your computer will boot normally.

Assuming you get a good boot from this process, go to START, choose SETTINGS and select CONTROL PANEL; then click on the ADD OR REMOVE PROGRAMS icon. UNINSTALL the rogue program by highlighting it in the list displayed and click on the CHANGE/REMOVE button. Reboot again; your problem SHOULD be solved.

If not, post back here for more help.

Good Luck!
