i cant get into windows, it always says UNMOUNTABLE_DRIVE_VOLUME before i can get into it. safe mode doesnt wrk either, as well as the last good setting. I need help as soon as possible, i dont want to reformat, i have lots of valuble info, resumes, etc. MUCH thanks in advance
Well, usually.. thats not good. There are a couple things you might try.. first, do you have a original Windows installation cd..? if not, go to Bootdisk.com and download a Windows 98 startup disk executable. Then put the floppy in and reboot. At the prompt type C: and press enter. That should put you in the C: directory. Then type fixboot /mbr and press enter.

If you have a Windows installation CD then you can try running the auto-repair in the repair console. To do this, put the cd in (make sure your BIOS is set to boot from CD first) and boot up. When it asks you "Press Any Key To Boot From CD"… do so. Navigate your way as if to install a fresh copy of Windows. It will copy setup files and then ask you if you want to repair a current installation or install fresh.. Choose to "INSTALL FRESH".. skipping the repair option. It will ask you again.. The next time it asks you if you want to repair.. highlight and choose the installation you want to repair. Now, if you do get an option a 2nd time to repair it.. then Windows can not repair itself automatically. If you get to the partitioning part of setup.. you've gone to far and need to quit or else your lobal to loose everything.

post back and let us know were you get on this issue.
