Hi! Since yesterday I'm getting random popups from porn sites and warnings that my computer is infected by a virus with a link that sends me to various "spyware-cleaners". I might have installed an active-x control by accident and i believe i had spyaxe on my computer as well, I'm not sure if I managed to remove it successfully though. Please let me know how to get my computer clean again. Happy New Year! :wavey: Here is my HiJackThis log file;

Hello 123techno, welcome to the forum

Please read these instructions carefully and print them out! Be sure to follow ALL instructions!

Please print out or copy these instructions\tutorials to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Download SmitRem.exe © noahdfear from one of these sites to your Desktop.
http://noahdfear.geekstogo.com/click%20cou....php?id=1"
http://www.downloads...org/smitRem.exe
Double-click the smitRem.exe and it will extract the files to a smitRem folder on your Desktop.

Please download the trial version of ewido security suite. Install ewido security suite and start the program from the icon on your desktop, then check for and download updates. Don't Run Yet.

Reboot to safe mode

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Open the smitfraud folder, then double click the RunThis.bat file to start the tool. Follow the prompts on screen. When the tool completes:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {e0103cd4-d1ce-411a-b75b-4fec072867f4} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\hpE031.tmp
O20 - Winlogon Notify: WgaLogon - WgaLogon.dll (file missing)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Delete these files if listed.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mssearchnet.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nvctrl.exe

Open Ewido Security Suite
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop

In the Control Panel click Display > Desktop > Customize desktop > Website > Uncheck "Security Info" if present.

Empty recycle bin.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log and the Ewido log.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

The forum is run by volunteers who donate their time and expertise.

Want to help others? Join the ClassRoom and learn how.

Logs will be closed if you haven't replied within 3 days

If you would like to paypal.gif for the help you received.

the ewido log was clean and i deleted it before i realized i should have posted that one too. it took 45 minutes so i wont redo it just for that. thanks a lot for the help. comp behaves like a well trained puppy :-)
no popups or warnings yet! fingers crossed

just a little comment to your help text;
the ewido program you linked to was called ewido anti-malware 3.5 - maybe this might confuse some?
this version of the program does not have the options to check uncheck any binder/crypter/archives boxes since there are none. you can choose to scan every file or by extension;

Thanks for the information on Ewido. Looks like they made some changes.

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O16 - DPF: ChatSpace Full Java Client 4.0.0.320 - http://63.102.226.24...va/cfs40320.cab
O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)
O18 - Filter: text/plain - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"

Empty recycle bin

Restart your computer.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.

Good Job

Log looks good :D  How is it running any issues?

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
