I'm embarrassed to respond that I figured that out right after I posted my question. Sorry about that! I removed it (since we don't use it anyway) – and the problem is fixed.
…along with all the other problems you helped me resolve on our computer.
Everything seems to be running nicely now. We did renew our Norton 2006 AntiVirus program – and we will also make sure we have the programs you mentioned in your December 15 posting.
Thank you again for all of your help. We will surely be back should we come upon another problem like this. You provide such a wonderful (and much needed) service!
