I need help please. MS Internet Browser home page cannot be changed and seems to be redirected to a link my my hard drive:

C:\Documents and Settings\Kyle\Local Settings\Temp\cpizcdqncrc.html

McAfee keeps indicating I have a trojan and that it is clean, but just pops right back up again…

I have run Ad Aware, McAfee in Safe Mode and Windows update is current. (Although there seems to be a problem with setting the auto update feature.)

Here is my log:

Hello New Member, welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help and are not receiving it elsewhere, please follow these directions in the posted order.

First, you have this nasty: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-10784.html and the one you mentioned above, while it may not be, is scanning as possible CoolWebSearch, see this: http://castlecops.com/startuplist-10784.html

I do not want to take any chances, I want to hit this stuff hard and we will run CWShredder also to be sure. Proceed like this:

1) Download CWShredder from here: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/Popu…WShredder.shtml Update the program if available, then choose FIX not scan. Allow the program to run and remove anything it locates. Post information about what it found for me to view in your next post.

2) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp and please do not run it until I ask you to.

3) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

4) Ewido scan:
Please download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.
Ewido manual updates

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • NOTE: During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.**
    • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
    • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
    • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
    • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
  • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report.
  • Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite.
**(Ewido for example has been flagging parts of AVG Anti-Virus, pcAnywhere and the game "Risk")

Open your Task Manager then the Processes tab. End process on this item: C:\WINDOWS\System32\secserv.exe That item is showing twice in your HJT log. If it is there twice in Processes, kill the process twice.

5) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5483427F-93B8-1470-5A89-E6B56484CDB2} - C:\DOCUME~1\Kyle\LOCALS~1\Temp\clidodkfyls.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [secserv.exe] C:\WINDOWS\System32\secserv.exe
(I can't identify this next item. If you do not know it, check and remove it)
O18 - Filter: text/plain - {A1C480E4-B10F-40B4-8480-19E2BCB67578} - (no file)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\secserv.exe >>> file

5) Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log and the Ewido scan results in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let me know how you are running now.

Thanks…pskelley

Hi PsKelley, Thank you for getting back to me. I have been out of town… I appreciate your assistance, but I think I have taken care of the problem just prior to your post. I have used Ad Aware, Spybot, unistalled EasySearch (and a few other unknowns ((secserv.exe is no longer loading)).) , unistalled and reinstalled McAfee and ran "regsvr32 wuaueng.dll" at a command prompt. (To correct a greyed out automatic update selections.) No more viruses are detected, no more popups and I can choose a homepage again on IE. Funky list of Toolbars on IE are no longer there. If I have further problems I will post a new log…. Thank you so much for responding to my inquiry.. KimKimmer
Thanks for letting me know Kim, look at the bad stuff I was removing in the instructions. The other scans were to feret out junk hiding from HJT. If you wish me to look at another log, then post one and I will be glad to. If I do not hear from you in 24 hours, I'll close this post.

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:

If you are reading this information…thank a teacher, If you are reading it in English…thank a soldier.
Phil,

Thank you again. I am including a new HJT log for your review. I will take a close look at what you wrote before and make sure.. Just an added note, this is my next door neighbor's computer which seemed to be running fine here at my house now appears to be running slower at her's… Go figure. The only difference I have seen so far is the USB connections to a hub and flash memory port…. Either the case let us start with the new log…

I'm off to bowling league and will check back in 3 hours or so…

Thank you,

Kim
