I am having trouble with my computer freezing up. Sometimes I can reboot and it will work for a few minutes or for an hour or more. Sometimes when I reboot, the "desktop recovery" screen comes up. Sometimes I get the message "Warning! CPU is changed, or CPU ratio adjustment is failed. Please re-enter the cpu settings in CMOS setup!" Other times it will freeze up during the re-booting process. I am running Windows XP Pro. If you can tell me what information you need to know about my system I will try to provide it. Any help will be greatly appreciated…………thanks
hi crosswired,
have you made any changes to your computer, like adding/changing hardware or memory or any changes in the BIOS. did you try clearing the CMOS then rebooting.
Hi Shelf Life,
Thanks for looking at my query. I haven`t changed a thing in quite a long time. Neither have I been into the BIOS or the CMOS setup. I first suspected a loose connection, but I checked that and found nothing loose or unplugged. Would posting some of the events from the error log help? Thanks again.
The CPU fan speed is 3750 RPM`s with a CPU temperature of 114 degrees and a System temperature of 95
degrees. The heat sink seems to be in place and locked tightly. I have not tried to overclock or anything of
that nature. I have not made any changes at all in several months. This includes adding and removing
hardware, etc. I regularly scan for viruses and spyware so I wasn`t thinking it could be anything of that
nature. The error log is enclosed below. Thanks again for your time.

hi crosswired,
those error logs arent related to your cpu warnings. can you monitor the cpu fan speed/temp. to see if its locking up due to overheating? other than that iam out of suggestions. have you tried a hardware forum? the computer makers website?
I opened my system up and took another look at all the fans to make sure they were working. Upon closer inspection (and putting on stronger glasses) I found a thin covering of dust on my heat sink and the blades of the fan. After cleaning the fan and the heat sink the temp came down to 95 degrees farenheit and I haven`t had any freeze-ups since cleaning them. Any suggestions on how to lower the temp into the range you specified? Thanks again for all the help guys. It is greatly appreciated.
