A couple of days back i deleted some programs and also other files i did not need from C: Drive (XP). I have only about 19% free space. Is there anything else i can delete to to free up room?
If you have any MP3s or Pictures etc on this drive burn them onto CDs and free up space, Run Disk cleanup and delete temporary files, also system restore points take up space. Do you have any programs like Google Desktop Search? if so these can idex files and that can grow upto abt 1GB taking space.
After the disk cleanup, dont forget to defragment to prevent the drive from slowing down due to fragmentation. In fact its good to disk cleanup and defrag regularly before the drive gets full.
Heres a useful link
Before you start deleting stuff away, it can be a good idea to create a system restore point! Click Start…All Programs…accesories…system tools…system restore…put a dot in the create a system restore point
In addition to the above you can minimize the amount of space your recycle bin uses by right clicking on the recycle bin and choose properties…global…I use 3% of my drive
You can reduce the size needed for your system restore check points too. Start…All Programs…accesories…system tools…system restore…On the left you'll see sytem restore settings. I use 3% of my drive.
Uninstall old unused programs. Reboot after each uninstall or every other if possible. If you don't know what files you are deleting than don't delete them!
After deleting files in your temp folders, and doing a disk clean up , run chkdsk or error checking on your drive…it may find cross linked files or lost clusters. To do this right click the drive…choose properties…Tools…and then Error Checking.
The computer will do this on the next boot up…It needs exclusive access to the drive.
After this run a disk defragment. Again from system tools.
If all else fails you can compress data files. See windows help on this.
Once you start dipping below 15% free on your drive, some of the options listed above will no longer be available to you! Good luck!
Thanks so much Orion and Stopthepop, followed your suggestions, all went fine, hve been able to free up lots of space nw. I defragged also (it hads been a while since I did) and system really needed this cleaning I think, its working much better nw. Thnx again.

Sorry to be Mr Raincloud…but actually, System Restore doesn't touch your documents. It only restores Windows files. (to the best of my knowledge)
Another good way to get your computer zipping along is to periodically clean your registry. I use a program called CCleaner (carp** cleaner) which can clean out all your temporary files and unused registry entries easily.
