Hi, I'm new to the forum, I hope I'm posting in the right place. I have hard drive that when booting up gives me message disk boot failure. It's running on windows Xp Pro, fat 32. When trying to go to the c prompt after using windows 98 startup it says no drive. Also tried recovery consule and would not work. Any suggestions to fix would be appreciated. This is one of our church computers with valuable files on it and the only one that was not backing up to the server. Thanks Steve
hmm.. well.. theres a couple things you can try and providing the drive is not physically toast then you might be able to recover it. Boot again with 98 floppy and when make sure and do it WITH cd rom support. When at he prompt simply type help.. or /help and it will list the commands you can use. Your looking for FIXBOOT command BUT BE CAREFUL.. if you use FIXBOOT /MBR and you accidentally choose the wrong thing then you can damage your disk (However seeing as the drive will currently not boot.. my suggestion is to use FIXBOOT /MBR and it will re-write the MBR for you)>
