I got into the recovery console, however, it asks the following:
Which Windows installation would you like to log onto
(to cancel, press enter)? then when I try to type, it only lets me type the s and no more.
It then says: Invalid selection. Please select a valid installation number.
What would that number be? Since I can not type scannow??
Great! We can boot from the CD! This will help out a lot.
Now, type the number 1.
Next, it will ask you for the administrator's user name password. Put it in.
OR
If you don't use the administrator's user, leave the password blank and hit enter.
We are going to have to change it with another boot disk! This is the only way of doing it without loss of data. You can always re-install, but that will wipe the Hard drive clean.
The very first step is to set the BIOS to boot like this:
Floppy
CD-Rom
Hard drive
The boot disk is a floppy. Its basically an Operating System that will change the Administrator's password so you can change it. This time, remember what it is, you will need it (like you saw before)
The unzipped image (bdxxxxxx.bin) is a block-to-block representation of the actual floppy, and the file cannot simply be copied to the floppy. Special tools must be used to write it block by block.
* Unzip the bd zip file to a folder of your choice.
* There should be 3 files: bdxxxxxx.bin (the floppy image) and rawrite2.exe (the image writing program), and install.bat which uses rawrite2 to write the .bin file to floppy.
* Insert a floppy in drive A: (floppy drive) Note: The floppy will be erased!
* Run (double-click) install.bat and follow the on-screen instructions.
Once that is done, reboot and your boot disk should start (If you followed the very first step in making the floppy bootable.) Just follow the instructions.
Once you changed the password for the administrator's account, reboot with the Windows XP CD like you did, but this time, you will have entered the right one to continue:
Tell me how it goes.
