i got on my computer today and found that my disk was full… which should have been far from the truth
so i looked around and found a file in my C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\WMI folder named trace.log that was 90GB!
upon restart, it reset itself to 0 but in 10 minutes it was already at a half gig.
i've searched around and all i can find is that this occurs when you are running MySQL and only on occasion. to the best of my knowledge i am not running any SQL servers (or any databases/servers period).
i've ran eTrust, SpyBot and adaware but all came clean. and my hijackthis log seems clean aswell…
so, what, does this mean i've been hacked and someone is running a server off of my comp? or is there something i am missing here?
Do you have Microsoft Bootvis installed by any chance?
If you have any other users on the computer, please ask them. It's not a bad program so don't get mad at your kids if they have installed it.
All it does is log the files used when booting up into windows. You will have to end the logging with the program, meaning it wont stop until you ask it to. This log is located where you said it is.
If you know how to use and you want to keep Bootvis do this:
Enter Bootvis and end the logging. You can now delete the log file.
Remember, you have to run the program again to end the logging.
If you want to un-install Bootvis do this:
Enter the task manager and end a task named: bootvis.exe
Then, you can safely delete the log file.
Now, you can un-install it by the Add/Remove Programs list in the Control Panel.
