Opearating system Windows2000. Internet explore 6. I started having this problem one day after, I guess, runnig ad ware or spy ware removal programs When I start internet explorer, I see IEXPLORER.exe in the task manager but no internet explorer window opens up. I then installed Internet Explorer 6 SP1. But I am still having the same problem. I have done all the tricks that I could find in the internet but no success so far. Meanwhile, I am using Netscape without problem to get to the internet. I'd appreciate any suggestion.

Are you sure it says IEXPLORER.exe?

The correct file name for internet explorer is IEXPLORE.exe (no R on the end) -- if it says IEXPLORER.exe, you've most likely got a virus, in which case I'd suggest downloading HijackThis from here (scroll down and click the button with a flashing green light next to it), then scanning with it and posting the log in this forum.

I am running windows XP SP2 and having the same problem with internet explorer 6.00 SP2. I click the short cut on the desktop or the icon in the quickstart and sometimes it opens a window and sometimes is just starts a process but no window opens. i have run hijackthis and found nothing out of the ordinary. I have run ad-aware which is pretty good at detecting problems in the registry and it hasn't fixed the problem. And I did go back and check as you mentioned to the member who started all this, to make sure the process opened is iexplore.exe (no r) so it's not a virus. I'm running mcafee virus scan professional with personal firewall. I just don't know what to do to fix this problem.
