Hi guys,

I have a problem with my pc where Internet explorer now randomly shuts down all of its windows that I have open, and I keep getting a message that tells me that I have 4 spyware programs running and thats why my pc is slow and that I have; iworm_attack_v122.02a and OHPE ver4.12_23. My pc also downloaded a 8 meg spyware scanner on its own. I also keep getting pop ups that want me to download more files like it from a site. I guess this is anti-popup popups. My desktop background also changes colour from white to cream when I move the cursor over icons.

Please help…

Here is my Hijack this log file…….THANKS…!!!!

Greetings and welcome to TomCoyote.org!

Please download and run Spybot-Search&Destroy and Ad-Aware; they are the standard programs for finding and cleaning malware off your system. Here are links to both programs, and instructions for their use.

Get Spybot - Search & Destroy from http://security.kolla.de
(This is the NEW Version 1.4)
Get AdAware SE Personal from http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download
(This is the NEW Build 1.6)

Download and install these programs if you don't already have them. If you do have them, make sure they are UPDATED AND CONFIGURED AS DESCRIBED here:

Configure Adaware

Configure Spybot

Reboot after running each program.

Please try these free online virus scans of your system:

Trend-Micro Housecall

Panda Activescan

Etrust Security Advisor

Choose "fix" or "clean".

Let them remove any infections found. Reboot after each scan.

When finished, "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)
Hi Micah

O23 - Service: SymWMI Service (SymWSC) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exe
The log is free of malware.

I wouldn't worry about not finding the files to delete. If you can't find them, and they aren't in the log, they can't be a threat.

I see only two possible items. I didn't suggest doing anything with them last time because they aren't malware.

These items:

O3 - Toolbar: Web assistant - {0B53EAC3-8D69-4b9e-9B19-A37C9A5676A7} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll (file missing)

O3 - Toolbar: Norton AntiVirus - {42CDD1BF-3FFB-4238-8AD1-7859DF00B1D6} - C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll (file missing)

Please check to see if these file are on your machine or not:

C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll <– file

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll <– file

If those files are actually gone (as the log would suggest), then "fix" those two entries above.

If they are still on your machine, then do nothing.

Is everything working OK now?

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Download/install IE-Spyad

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings at Qualsys.com

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.

Hi Micah
I did the other 2 thing you suggested.
Everything seems ok now but my desktop background still changes clour from cream to white when I scroll over desktop icons.
I cant change the desktop background at all.

Thanks again…

Save it to your desktop as fixme.reg

Then, locate fixme.reg on your desktop and it.

You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".

Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Reboot & see if you don't have control over the desktop now.

Post back and let me know.
